Just wondering if anyone has something good, bad, or other to say about these saws? Some who know of me, know I rock the mighty mouse Husky 240, so I'm wondering if there's a noticeable step up going up 6 or 7 cc and from 2 hp to 2.8? (I think) in the 445?

Typical wood is 4 to 12 inch poplar around here, although there are bigger trees, more a pain in the butt.

They're on sale for $383 at the local dealer until end of June, so I'm considering one.

2.8/2=1.4, and a 40% gain ought to be noticeable, but I think the answer you're more likely to get is that you should spend another $120 and get a 545.

That's a lot of money for a clamshell. I'd kick in some more and get a pro saw. Or a good valve in a 50cc class clamshell is PP5020AV - you can put a 16" bar on it.

My 445 is my most used saw, it does a good job with the. 325 bar n chain, $383 is Steep you can get them at Lowe's for $339.
    I paid $220 for mine a refurbished.
For $360 retail you get a CS 490 a 50cc saw that weighs the same as a 445

    saskwoodburner,

Sounds like a pretty good deal. I don't think these guys from the states are considering the exchange rate.

I own one. Also have a 353 and 372 so the 445 doesn't get used much at all. Didn't do bad when that was all i had. Would you be interested in buying used? I may have one to sell.

I was thinking about that that depends on what stores you have there available

Yup, forgot about the exchange rate. I was still going to suggest keeping your eye open for used - looks like you might have an option already! Good luck!

I use mine a lot because the weight is more important to me than speed

It might be a good way to go right there but depends on shipping I guess

You will notice a difference in how it feels (quality) more than anything. I don't think you'd miss the power bump either. But Jons advice to go for a 545 instead is very, very good advice. You can keep your Mighty Mouse 240 for the little stuff or as a backup unit and you will never regret running the 545 as your primary tree slayer. :saw::saw::saw:

Ask around, I bet you could find a good deal on the 545, even north of the border.

And I use my other saws because of the speed . Well the 372 at least. The 353 I have modded some and will port it some more. So like to run that one because it's more what I've made. The 445 is 2.5 yrs old maybe close to 3. Being 28 i can get away with using a heavier saw for the time being plus the 353 n 445 have to weigh about the same.

Exchange rate didn't even cross my mind. :headbang: never shipped anything to Canada. Offer still stands as far as I'm concerned. saskwoodburner if you're interested just shoot me a pm.

Once I get my 55 out of the shop I will probably use that more, only weighs a pound more than the 445.
Something I never used to think about though, some bigger saws even though powerhead weight is low, they hold more oil and gas which adds to the weight

Thanks for the input guys, and I appreciate the offer from Jeffrey. I would prefer though to buy new from the local dealer, and I don't even want to think what the exchange and shipping would be converting the Canadian Peso over.:emptywallet:

I'll have to keep weighing my options for now I suppose. I did a check of the wood piles, and I have around 5 cords including the wood shed. So I could deep six my saw in the swamp tomorrow, and still make next year and most or all of the next no worries.

Here's a link to the flyer (and prices) you'd find up here.

    http://moodysequipment.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Husqvarna-Spring-Flyer-April-2016.pdf

As you can see, our prices are a step up from you guys south of the border.

I might add, that when I bought my 240 two years ago, it was $229 including the 3 bottles of Husqvarna fuel, so even that saw went up $50 since then...

I can't really say how much difference there would be between the 38cc saw and the 46cc but there is quite a bit of difference between a 35 and a 46.
According to that flyer that's a pretty good price on the 445

No problem man. Was just throwing it out there. I was just thinking about a month ago that the 445 doesn't get used much anymore. Was thinking about porting it and then the sell it idea came up. You were the first one looking for one.

What size of trees can you cut until you feel the 445 is undergunned?

I have used a 345, the model the 445 replaced, and it would handle 16" wood just fine. The 445 runs a larger chain than the 240. From the prices in the ad , the 445 is being sold at a good price compared to the regular price. I believe I would prefer the 445 to the 240 myself, of course I enjoy spending other members money. Lol!

I was on the scrounge and pull rope broke on my other saw had to use the 445 to cut a 30-inch log, under gunned on that but it did the job.
Does good 12 to 15 inches after that kind of slow getting the job done
