Off on another bloody fool crusade.

After getting the roof fixed we decided to go after some more home improvement.

The dust that seemed to come from everywhere while the roofers were thumping around up top was the driving force.

Went after the LR drapes and after getting a good look at how dusty they were PLUs the cost to dry clean them $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ we decided to try washing them, UMMMMMM, BAD PLAN.

OOOOOOOOOK it's been 23 years with those same drapes hanging there, time for new ones.

The old ones were on a 12 foot traverse rod plus a rod for the valances and another rod for the shears.

The cats destroyed the rod for the shears years ago and such, so we decided to go with the simpler Grommet top type drapes.

Off to shop we go and soon it became evident that this was gonna get $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ :bug:

The Depot wanted $300 per panel just for the drapes and we need a minimum of 4 panels to do it right.

    Not gonna happen there.

Off to JC Penny we go.

    Joy joy joy.

    Great sale running.

Found a lovely combination of colors and such.

Entire package of 4 panels plus the 2 valance panels for the center came to $210

    Nice drapes too.

Now then we gotta have a looooooooooooooooooooong rod and brackets.

    OH MY GAWD.

The hardware was exorbitantly priced and is the most cheezy junk I have ever seen.

    $105 for one end bracket.
The rod was a couple hundred $$$ too.

    So much for that plan.

Sat stewing on it and decided to build our own hardware.

Off to the kitchen table with paper, pencil, ruler, tape measure and cardboard.

A while later we had a plan.

Designed a set of brackets to hold the rod (Made from 14 gauge steel not the tin foil the stores sell)

    Needed a good 1-1/4 rod.

Found some aluminum 1/8" wall tube with a diameter of 1-1/4 inch SWEEEEEEEEEEEET

This 12 foot beast is gonna be a beotch to handle, so decided to cut it to a 3 foot and two 4-1/2 foot pieces and join them with a 6 inch stud that fastens into the center 3 footer.

Found some perfect plastic bushings to go in the brackets.

The steel brackets will be bent and ready today. I just have to trace my pattern on them and cut out the design.

Next I need to drill the brackets and bore the hole for the bushings.

I have built a lot of stuff in my years, but never drapery hangers.

Total cost for the brackets and rod will be about $125 and I will be able to hang the car on them and not bother things

The stuff the stores sell is so flimsy.

A friend had drapes done in their new house a while back and the 3 spans totaled 40 feet.

A few days after it was done it all fell down in a heap.

    Next comes the floor.

Gonna rip out the carpet in the LR/DR and install a laminate floating floor (Pergo)

    Gonna paint the walls too.

I want to do a FAUX paint rock hearth thing behind the little Whit too.

What starts out small (Clean the drapes) ends up in a remodel

    ARRRRRRRGH.

Oh well Snowy, around here those drapes would be a non-issue as the boss handles that kind of things and likely already has the fabric in her stash.

The mounting materials might take some looking around for and as you found most of the store stuff is just crap with a high price tag usually made over the other side of the ponds.

One best not start else they end up with a total redo.

gees...I thought I was bad.... had the same curtains in the MBR from 99, when I built the house. survived several GF's. Kathryn made a quilt for the bed but the blues in the curtains did not match. (OK, I know what's coming!!) all went quiet for a year or better till one day I heard "we NEED new curtains fancy white to complement the bedspread" Now I could have said we can put the old bedspread back on the bed - it matched perfectly! :zip::zip: is a better plan. :emptywallet:so i installed all new rods and tiebacks etc on all the windows in the bedroom and the adjoining bath. now the area rug under the bed doesn't match either...won't be long before I'm removing it.:picard::makeitrain":makeitrain"

I scored a really good deal at pergooutlet.com a couple years ago. Padding attached, decent mm's, $1/sqft delivered to the house for free.

I just saw the funniest Ikea commercial, the baby found a wooden curtain rod and was playing with it, even figured out how to turn it on, punchline was you need storage for more than clutter.
