My neighbor accosted me over the weekend as i pulled in with another load of firewood and said i was creating an eyesore with all the wood--what was i doing? and how much did i really need? she's about to have a service take down a magnificent oak in her backyard--probably 6' in diameter--i actually teared up thinking about the great loss--it's healthy and commands the sky--so i posted a note on it to drop the wood in my yard--but now with her attitude i'll be lucky to see the sawdust--if trees gave off wi-fi people would be planting like crazy but, hey, they only give off oxygen
Welcome to the group, you'll fit right in. Eyesore or not it's your property..... unless she wants to pay your heating bill you should keep hoarding.
Welcome to the club! But you are asking the wrong question... You can never have enough wood! The only thing to worry is about is having enough space to stack it! But... I actually don't see any wood here?
Welcome scavenger, you're gonna like it here, I guarantee it...Now as Shawn Curry alludes,,,about those pics???? We are a visual lot here in the hood...just sayin
Not trying to hijack but the shed is full and I've got 3 years worth drying. I'll be cutting more come fall though
Nice stacks rebelduckman ! Welcome aboard scavenger... since we all have been in the same boat learn a little about your neighbor and explain you addiction in terms she can understand.. My favorite to use on the people who lean right side is... I do this because it heats my house and I know groups in middle east I do not want to get my money to fund their causes which can be to kill me On left side ... I am saving the planet from greenhouse gasses and using a renewable resource to help prevent global warming.. Great point is they are both true.. Just state your beliefs in their terms and say I believe in putting work and action in my beliefs.. most everyone respects that even if they don't do it.. The side benefit is they will still think your crazy but try to help a little more because it's a cause they believe in .. you might even get that Oak...
Too much is when you can no longer fit it in your yard. Unless, of course you have more land elsewhere ... Another point is that more wood = longer drying times = dryer wood = less smoke = cleaner neighborhood.
+1, a hoarder never has too much wood We need Pictures , cause we've never seen a stack of firewood that could be called an "eyesore"
How many stacks of wood is enough? Just one more! Three years worth of c/s/s dry wood is a good start. Depending on your climate it can take three years or more to dry wood. When you feel the heat that DRY wood makes, you'll be happy you're three years ahead. And you'll likely go for more. Keep cutting Keep splitting Keep stacking Keep Hoarding Keep annoying the neighbors
What is the old saying about good fences and neighbors?........ Just stack 3 sides of your backyard like fencing and tell Miss or Mister Pizzy neighbor "It's when Form meets Function" Done.
Or..... I was going to get into backyard pig farming, but decided to use my property to help lower my heating bill and get rid of my need to got to health club at the same time.
I asked that question once too... and these wonderful people have helped me through that terrible time too. So I took out my garden to stack more wood... And took my garden over to my neighbor... Welcome to FHC..
Oh yes, welcome to the club scavenger . we are your local hoarder support group, our motto is "more is always better" Not really, I just made that up. But it is how we feel.:stacke::stacke::stacke:
Sorry, I don't have panoramic app on this iPad...... That's the snooty condos in the background of the second pic- I'm glad there's a fence, so they don't try to steal any wood for their fire pits or BBQ grills.....but if any of them asked for some, I would gladly donate to their cause. Otherwise, everyone on this side of that fence to the left and right of us just thinks we're crazy! No wood burners, of course! So while their electric bills were in excess of $250/ month over the winter, ours was $81 at the coldest point. Cheers to FHC!
Eric VW , your yard looks like an island of sanity in surrounded a by an ocean of people who probably never come outside.
