I am told that canned and bottled beer only has a shelf life of 6-9 months. Up to to two years in the frig. Same for home brew. Of course, no one here would ever allow that to happen!

It depends on whether you are gathering a base for an old fashioned porter or not. That recipe starts with past its prime brew and runs it through the process again along with new ingredients. Remember beer wasn't a 72 hour to bottle and consume beverage, as it is according to the high volume swill makers of today.

We won't discuss hard ciders or meads.

Never tried double brewing Porter (but will)

For old fashion Porter I simply take stout that I have allowed to age about a year in a sealed "barrel" and mix it with fresh porter. I use a 1 part old stout to 4 parts new porter formula. I think that is the approximation of the old London version 9early 1800's). Tasty after about 21 days bottle aging.

Ah, one of the many tools of ignorance, up there with the pick axe and shovel. Sometimes used in wood working. Yours is missing something, what I can't remember because I'm old and am forgetting as much as possible to cut down on the questioning.

I think you should check out the sealed barrel part, as the version I've read about it is old flat beer (variety not critical). But it has been a few years since I consulted the books. Stout now there is an interesting brew, I prefer a good stout to most other ales. Currently I haven't a single bottle of stout in the house, just some summer ale and last fall's hard apple cider. Last Tuesday we paid Bray's a visit and I partook of one of their porters to go with my sausage platter (praise the maker, they are serving sauerkraut or onions/peppers). I guess a few folks besides me gave them hell for the elimination of sauerkraut from their menu. Now to get the potatoes back.

I'll have to try using a flat beer this fall.

Always like to try different variations of the craft.

One water valve delivered, the fridge is all pulled out and the boss is cleaning the mess that was under it. Bear is getting ready to turn the air blue. Looks like I got the correct replacement part. The fun and games shall commence.

sent my stove controller in for repair April 3rd..... it came back while we were in Grand Cayman. installed it May 4 or so...doesn't work:hair::hair:called the company. thay want pictures of the installation! :hair:i took pics when i took it apart so i would know where everythiny goes.... sent them those. sent the unit back May 7.

Called today... there are some problems that we have not seen before??? blah,blah,blah.... i ran a test dept for a phone system manufacturer for 10 years, so don't BS me. it's a simple circuit card with discreet components. She promises to have it repaired by Wednesday. I'll call....

Meantime my bride has been without a stove for 6 weeks or so. I'd better get it fixed lest she get to likin' that:D

Air has gone through its color changes and there is water in the ice maker and it is waiting the freeze, then the release and dump followed by refill, hopefully I got the fill level close to where it was. Be a bit before I'll know for certain. It is a good thing I'm somewhat patient.

That'd be grounds for painful anatomy rearrangement here, you need to put the boss on the phone for those calls.

After that amount of time, I'd just get a new stove and be done with it. Well, that would be what I would have done in my previous life anyway. Now in my new life, since I never use the stove (or oven), I wouldn't even bother with a replacement part - just let the stove sit there and hold the crockpot while it does its thing.

we don't use the stove much and were away for about 14 days total of that time, so the combination of the gas grill, microwave, electric griddle, and the gas stove in the RV pretty well covers it.
