I have spread cayenne pepper on a 2 foot strip along my property line. It works. One major offender came again today. The dog started sniffing around and starting sounding like a duck within seconds. I mixed a 1/4 cup of cayenne to a gallon of water, a squirt of dish soap, and applied it with a pump up sprayer. Ideally, coming up with a recipe for a hose end sprayer would work best. Need to figure out a concentrated formula to work with the Ortho dial and spray. Any ideas? Thanks.

To what purpose do you hope to achieve?

I'm guessing its to keep the neighborhood dogs from using his yard as a bathroom.

If this really works I'll be buying pepper in bulk. The people on our road are terrible about this and refuse to clean up after their dogs. It's so bad that the kids stopped riding their bikes because they couldn't get off the road if a car came by.

Last year I started shoveling the piles out into the road every few days so the offenders had a chance to step in it on their walks. Usually 20 to 25 piles every other day from the 100 yard stretch of road frontage we have. Didn't seem to help.

Yes, to deter the dog crap! bulk cayenne is cheap. Comes in 8 pound box, $20. It gums up the sprayer, but it does seem to work. Human Male urine is also cheap and said to be effective. I'm on the corner, with a fire hydrant. The dogs are strolling past the marking post. The commercial animal repellents are made with pepper.

I don't know about bears. I'm on a small city lot, no bears.

That's terrible!!! I live in the country with few houses, but there's one house in particular where my dog ALWAYS stops to take a dump in the yard. It's a little old harmless lady in her 90's. I never remember to grab some baggies, so I always find a couple sticks and toss the poo across the street into the bean field.

Skier neighbors used to let their dog crap on our sidewalk and driveway; right next to the garage door....all the while the dog was on a leash!...and then just walk away!

First time, I carried it back to their yard and deposited it alongside the driver's door to their vehicle.

Second time, I placed in on the step to get in their house. Their has been no third time.

Haha! I've thought of loading a potato launcher with their dogs waste and launching it at them as they walk off, but that would probably get me a police visit. If it was just one, that would be easily handled. It's an ongoing battle living in a densely populated suburban neighborhood.

Why do you think it OK for your dog to trespass and leave a mess on someone's private property? People always say they can't control when there dog has to go, They can control where it goes. Somewhere else!

Honestly you can't always control it. Most of the time when he's on a leash being walked he'll just step into the grass and stop moving with no warning and then that quickly he's pooping. I've tried quickly moving him to the other side of the road but he keeps pooping while he's being dragged so now I've got turds in the yard and turds in the middle of the road. I'd rather have it all in one place so I can easily clean it up.

Well, someday your dog is going to get a nose full of cayenne pepper! I have had dogs. Dogs are smart and can be trained to empty themselves on command, when and where you want them to. My dogs were trained to go in their designated area before the walk. They were trained that we are on a walk, not a sniffing, lets go find a place crap mission.

I don't live in a subdivision, people around here don't get worked up about their yards. I could probably leave the mess in their front yard and most people would never even know about it. Personally, I couldn't care less if there was a few dog turds in my own yard every week. What bothers me is the empty packs of cigarettes and beer cans I have to pick up every week.

Funny you mention picking up trash. The dog walkers on my road will pick any trash they see but won't pick up after the dogs. We live on a 1/2 mile dead end road with 20 or so houses and we're not in town so I'm guessing the dog owners feel the don't need to clean it up.

Your problem is not the dogs, but their lazy owners. Dogs are dogs, they dont know any better.

It does. I also have a short retaining wall people tend to use as a park bench I marked that also. Funny to watch them jump up once they realize they are sitting in pizz!

I know, that's why I spray the owner with the hose, not the dog, lol
