Well, these were mentioned over in the stove forum by Schoondog, and I decided to grab some to test out. Local HD had about 12 tons left, so I grabbed 10 bags. 100% Oak....I could be really lovin' these! Cold weather is almost on us again, so a quick stove clean and I'll test 'em out. Hard to believe they can ship these all the way from Arkansas and sell at $4.18/bag or $209/ton. Here's the bag info:
With this cold weather coming tomorrow, I did a stove clean including my 1st comb. blower clean (it was amazingly clean after 133 bags). Gotta finish off the Timber Heat that were in the hopper first, but the HR will go in tonight before I go to bed. I'll report back after a few bags go through the stove.
so imacman, what do you think?....hot, super hot, no big deal, average ash, very little ash, what ash, or crap there is a lot of ash? 100% Oak should smell wonderful and I'm betting there is minimal fines....fess up partner.
Doug, so far the ash level was low. As for the heat, I was hoping they would see me through this cold spell we're having, but it wasn't to be. I had to scoop them out & replace w/ the TSC (Ligs) I had. Temp went up 2 degrees after I did that. They also don't seem to be compressed well......they are very easy to break in half. So, I guess my review so far is average....but yes, they DO smell great and very minimal fines. I'll be curious to see how they do during "normal" winter temps here.
My local HD now has these as well as the AWF's. Which would you choose? Going back for more tomorrow. 4 mills in Maine and HD is selling pellets from away. Not that I'm complaining. It's nice to have choices other than MWP, FSU, MC and GT.
If the AWF's are kicking the chit out of this cold, grab more, don't mess with a good thing pick up a few of these to try .
Will....MacArthur Rd. Lowe's had AWF's (5 pallets), Clean Energy (2 pallets)....I grabbed a few bags of the AWF's to try, might throw them in tonight.....we'll see... Bethlehem Lowe's was still out of pellets as was the Easton HD.....
I'd still have to try them. But thats just me. They may not compete with AWF, But they may blow the doors of some other brand that is all thats left in stock. Ya just never know when you might need the intel on them!
One thing I noticed with the AWF's I picked up today was that I was getting bags with the same logo but different color scheme off the same pallet. I'm assuming (hoping) it's just a different roll of plastic but the pellets did seem a tad lighter in color. Batch difference probably.
Ya I bought a few bags of the heat resource pellets and burned one, but didn't get a great read on how they performed. The weather got too cold and I've been burning the sets. I know the house was not as warm as I thought it should have been and I decided not to mess around and bring on the good stuff. Doggy
