i have someone offering free beech and tulip wood but I have never heard of them. Are they good firewood and also does this look like moldy wood or think it's still good ?
Wood looks okay. Strike the ends with an axe; not super hard. If the axe buries deeply with ease, then it is not so good. Beech is one of the best; get all you can. Tulip, many will burn but not one of the best. I'd probably burn it if it were needed but we don't have it here.
Beech is one of favorites, tulip is gopher wood. Put some in and go pher more......BUT if someone was offering for free to take both I would go pher it.
I kind of really like tulip. I have plenty of it in my woods and since I just started putting up firewood about a year ago, it's nice to have wood that dries in 3 months instead of 3 years. As such it's a nice bridge until I can get on the 3 yr. plan,
Beech is a fine fire wòod.. about 15 mbtu per cord splits easy .. I think tulip is a tulip popular little less btus but dries quick a little ashy but I burned cords of it this year and it heated the house! for free I would take all I could get good luck
X2.... the rounds look good to me as far as being solid. The Rounds with the furrowed bark are the Tulip, the smooth bark ones are the Beech. Appears to me that the big tree was the Tulip. Go get it for sure...
Beech is a lot higher than 15 mbtu's a cord. More like 26-27 mbtu's a cord. It's better than any oak btu wise. It's possibly the second best firewood to shagbark hickory. The poplar, while we don't have tulip poplar here, is certainly like the Aspen, or basswood and cottonwood we do have. All those are about half the btu's of beech. That said, I like burninating poplar, and basswood. The stuff dries quickly and lights easily. Beech dries pretty quickly though too. Here beech dries quicker (1 yr easy) than shagbark or Sugar, and by far quicker than any oak.
Free close easy convenient already cut up? If it's 3 or more of those things i pick up ANY firewood. In fact I'm picking up a couple loads tomorrow after work of box elder and pine 10minutes from my place for free already cut up and can back right up to it, and the guy will help load! Jump on it and burn it up! Its either that or it'll rot, or worse, someone else will take advantage of it!!!!
