It just had me worried about that whine, because I didn't know if it was normal for the bigger engine, or was a sign the feul pump was failing...

As far as rolling back an odometer it can be done with a drill, but the entire cluster could have been changed out, which is common as the servo motors driving tach, fuel gauge, voltage etc usually go bad.
If it was a municipal vehicle the mileage could very well be right, my mention of it being a gasser(454 gas) it likes to drink, so it wouldn't see a lot of miles mostly plowing and towing in a small area.

The fuel pumps whine is somewhat normal, if you're just hearing it in the accessory position(engine off)

Ok I got ya thanks....you can hear the pump the whole time the truck is running..... I dove it and turned it off and on a few times and It started and ran fine.... I mean it very well may just be louder on these bigger 454 motors, but I haven't noticed hearing it that loud in the v8 5 litres Chevys.... I do know that I can temember hearing them on the v8 5 litre chevys though....

Wonder if there is any easy ways to tell if the cluster has been removed....other than lookin at the bolts that hold it together.... I didn't ask when I was there, but surely I can see the millage history with the title.....

I looked up the kelly blue book and in good condition the truck is worth $3200.... I don't think they will get 3995 out of the truck.... With the big motor it will take a fire wood guy or a guy that's pulling something to even be interested in this truck....

No mileage history if it was only owned by one owner.

Ya you are right gas is $2.20 or so here right now.....they probably didn't mess with millage I say you probably right.... I have a 91 Chevy that's 2wd with the 4.3 v6.... It just turned 80,000.... I will be driving my 91 to work, which I only live ten miles from my work.....I will just be getting wood with her and maybe drive in the winter when we get a lot of snow.....damm I just wish he would come down to $3000-$3200, and I may bite..... It's been setting for some months, so no one beating doors down to get it. Especially since of the big azz motor!!!!

Well for any of you guys that care, I called the school that used the truck, and he confirmed the millage, and he was an older gentleman....he was very helpful and he said that this truck was the only one in there fleet that didn't have a salt spreader in the bed, and it was his personal work truck.... He said the truck has been a really good one, and he has no dog in this fight so he has no reason to lie....

I went agian to look at it agian with my day which would find a problem with any damm thing lol.... Truck has some dings and the old guy backed in a pole and bent bumper in some... Also found out one turn signal don't work and both brake lights are out....

I know I have OCD badly, but the ford I have now is a lemon and it has me gunshy on this one now.... One of my mechanic buddy's said if he had the money he would buy the truck and I would have to buy it off of him.....I just want the guy to work with me some on the price....

I would go wave 2800 cash in his face. That truck has all the right parts to go to work with easily sourced parts if needed.

Exactly. Set your price (don't forget a couple hundred more for tax) get the cash, make sure he sees it, if he agrees, great, if not, tell 'im to call you when he wants to sell it...you'll get a call soon enough. He has had it for a while already, and with the (over book) price he has on it, big block gasser (not popular these days) and some rust holes in the cross members, I kinda doubt it is goin anywhere soon (unless it goes into your driveway)
You could mention the fuel pump noise to him just as a negotiating tool, but in reality that pump is really no big deal, if you can drop the tank yourself, it looks like a aftermarket pump (bare pump, not sending unit/pump assembly) is well under $100

Ya I want the truck, and I told him I would get 3500 cashthat day, I did not have it in hand, but they said best they can do is 3900 with tax out the door.... Which in reality with sales tax included would be like paying 3600 for the truck....and when I called the school that the truck came from they told me they got 2500 on trade in, so I know for a fact he ain't goin to take $3000 for it.....

I must have been looking at trade in values, but I double checked and this truck in fair condition, is 3900, and very good is 4600...

We will see I need a truck like yesterday, but damm sure ain't goin to let them know that... Maybe I should go over there next Monday with 3500, and say last offer boys....

I told a mechanic/farmer I know about it and showed him picks, he said if he had money he would buy it today.... For whatever reason I just think 3500 out the door is reasonable, I could very well be wrong....

-KBB shows that truck here in NE OH would sell at a dealer (retail) anywhere from $4150 (fair condition) to as high as $6695 (in excellent condition)...(those sound a lil high to me)
-Values for a private person to person sale show $4186 (fair) up to $5100 (excellent)
-If you were trading it in, (wholesale) they show from $2837 (fair) to as high as $4397 (excellent)...just some FYI for ya...

They have you on the hook. Sooo, drop the info. about the $2500 trade in and ask what they did to justify the price adjustment? What,..paperwork? Oil change?. (What did they do?) Sure as heck wasn't taking the scale off of the frame rails. (You'll need to address that in the future- let them know that also.)
Walk in- $3,400.00 cash out the door. Give 'em a serious F/U look like you mean it. "You think about it, I'll be outside for 20 minutes." - 10 minutes sounds good but too short of a time frame, 30 minutes gives them too much leverage.
Have $300.00 in cash extra. (1) $100, (2)$50, (5)$20. Now you know your limit. Beat 'em up for every $20 you can.
Stay strong on your bottom dollar price, don't do the impulse purchase thing. Tough it out.
They'll call you in a few days, their offer will be a bit higher than your last offer. Stick to your guns.
A few days later, - OK, when can you pick it up? :salute:
My call- $3,675.00, out the door. Stick to your guns. JB

I like the way you think beetle-kill....see the school that owned the truck traded it in for a new truck at a big new car dealership.... The small lot that has the truck now, got the truck off the big dealership....I would say this smaller lot buys vehicles that the new dealership probably don't want on a brand new car lot.....I hope that makes sense?!?!?

It just so happens that the school the truck came from isn't too far from me, and I called them..... That's the only reason I know what they traded it in for....

I would be willing to bet the small lot that has the truck probably paid 3000 for it.... But that's just a guess..... I kinda want to not talk to them for a week then go with cash in hand, and hope it's still there.....:hair:
