Hey guys I have a chance to get one of these truck that has 84,000 miles, and is pretty damm clean, the guy wants $3500..... I just don't have any idea if the 7.4l 454 motor is a good motor or not.... If anyone has used one at work, or as a personal vehicle please give me your thoughts on it.... It will be my wood hauling truck, not daily driver so I could care less about mpg.....thanks a lot Kyle!!!

Don't have one, but the 454 is a beast of an engine. Runs forever and them vortecs were all built well. Transmission can be an issue but rebuilds are cheap. Mileage is bad, but guessing you're not buying it for a commute.

I'm a dyed in the wool Ford guy but I have to admit that the 454 is a solid motor...thirsty, but reliable. With 84k on it now it should last you a good long time just pulling firewood duty. Sounds like a fair deal too

I have an '83 K30 with the 7.4. Naturally aspirated, it will pull 2 cord of log length @ 11K. Good motor, just don't rev them out.

Wow guys thanks for replys..... Ya I only live 10 miles from were I work anyway so I will drive it in the winter also if I buy it..... Sounds like it will be a good truck, he'll it should take 3 years or more for me to put 10,000 miles on it....I mean I figured for $3500, if the motor and tranny last me up til 130,000 miles I will ever way ahead....see I also have a guy 20 miles away that I can get logs from, and this truck would be perfect for that....I am goin to look at it and drive in here soon....

Hey beetle kill, how many miles do you have in your 454..... This one is a 1998 and is the fuel injection 454 vortec...... They guy at the lot that has it , has been driving it and he said he can't believe how clean it is, and how well it drives..... He said it gets 14 mpg......, I don't know how they are on gas, but the f250 351m I have that I can't keep running probably only gets 10 miles to the gallon, it has a regular carb....

Hey thanks guys yes I care lol, if his dually gets 10 mpg, maybe the guys is right and this truck gets 13-14 mpg....how many miles does he have on that dually, and how many miles do the rest of you guy's have on these 454s.....

I am actually pretty excited to see and drive this truck, I think it would good for me and great for hauling wood....it has a boss plow mount also on the truck.... I am hoping to get the truck for $3200-$3000, and if I can get it for that price and it drives out right I will be buying it, hell with under 84,000 miles, surely she will last me if I do the proper maintenance....

plow truck had 112k on it got sold few months back hydraulic and brake lines rusted engine had no problems.. True mpg were hard because it often carrying 4 yard of omething and hauling 15 ton excavator. .. it got 6 mpg once hauling stone and ecavator to my house normal should easy be 2x that. mileage while plowing parking lots is hard to guess..

Mine is an 88 v3500. Its a dual wheel dump. Is the trans and auto or 5 speed? If auto its prolly a 4l80, 5 speed could be an nv4500. Both great transmissions. image.jpeg

Eatonpcat, yes sir it has a boss plow mount on the truck also, and here are the rest of the pics.... The guy said whoever owned this truck took very good care of her.... The guy actually has $3995 on the truck but on the phone I told him I am in the $3000-$3500 price range on it and he said I was about right on the price.... Hell it may be well worth $3500.... If it drives good as it looks anyway....

Well I posted the pics because I know a thread with no pics suck lol, and it's hard to get an idea of what a guy is talking about until you can atleast see it....
