I have a 1980 k10. I have 33x12.5x15 on it now. I was thinking about selling those rims and tires as there getting old to recover some of the money to buy new tires. My thought was getting more modern factory aluminum rims in 16 or 17 so that I can have a wider selection of tires but have a new look. Question is do the modern factory rims say from late 90s on have correct back spacing or similar to my old rally style OE rims from the 80s? The newer style look flatter on the outside or less concave from the outside. Is that how they are meaning the tire will sit farther inside the wheel wells and cause rubbing issues or do they have similar back spacing but just a thicker mounting flange or surface which makes up for the outside appearing more flush on the outside with the edge of the rim? If I am making no sense I could post pics to illustrate what I'm talking about. Also I have manual hubs. Is the center hub portion on say 00 era wheels the same as the old 80s wheel?
How will tire rack tell me if the back spacing from say a 2002 k1500 will work on a k10? I know they will bolt up (if hub is same size) but that doesn't answer my questions? Unless there features There that I have never seen before?
Newer trucks will have more backspacing, which will suck the wheels and tires in closer to the frame. Your best bet would be to go with AM wheels. 17's will probably give you the most options. I personally would go with a 17x9 or 17x10, with around 3.5-4" of backspacing for a 33" tire.
That's what I feared. I was hoping to do this cheap, which was the reason for the factory wheels. I know you can get some cheap black wagons and even cheap chrome wagons but still $50 each is $200. I will probably just go with some cheap 33" mud tires for 15". And sell what I got when I take off.
I tried to put some 15x10 centerlines that were made to fit the late 90s chevys on a 73 chevy 1500. Truck had a 4 inch lift and tire size was 35x12.50, they had too much backspacing. My buddie said i could use spacers and longer studs but i didnt think that was a good idea. I ended up getting some aftermarket wheels meant to fit the 73-87 chevy trucks.
Clemsonfor - Tread Wright has retreads pretty cheap. I bought a set for my wife's Tahoe and they've lasted very well! I don't think they go to 33" for a 15" rim though... FILTER
Yea I have been looking hard at treadwri ghat after DexterDay and Pallet Pete have installed them and at least one other member I can't think of. I have also seen another company in TN like tire recappers or something . But yea they don't have the 33s so that's why I was thinking to get some cheap 16 ot 16 inch wheels to get more options. Esp from TW. But I have a kind of buddy that sells tires and can get smoking deals on tires for me so I may just get him when I do to order me some 33" mud tires in a cheap tire.
Yes Cooper and Kelly I beleive are same company. Those look like a cool tread. A throw back to the 70to80s mud tire. Look kind of like TSLS super swampers. And I have never seen those around here.
