No fines box on this beast. This stove was built with the best auger and worst burn pot. Zero auger issues including jams since I bought it. 30+tons through it without a problem

Well the NetGear C6300 will arrive at their RMA facility and a refund will then be issued. Meanwhile my little old WNDR3700V4 just loves the DD-WRT firmware and it runs the latest miniDLNA version just fine. I fed it a 32GB USB 2.0 Stick with 5620 mp3 files. Next up will be my WNDR4500 elcheapo refurbished unit. Last will be the R6250 (warranty reasons). Got the last load of warsh in the washer. Time to see what I can have for lunch.

Probably not sleeping, just can't access the interweb! I think the Geek Squad is a scam, but maybe we could chip in 20 bucks each and buy Smokey a router that works!

Well OM, NetGear maker of various networking hardware for quite sometime pulled what they thought was a good thing but it had unintended side effects and "issues". I've been using their products for a long while. So after going through two separate models of their combo units and playing tag team with their support department over three months I am getting a refund. I sent the last unit I tested back to them via pre-paid Fedex Shipping. I replaced the modem part of the NetGear combo unit with a Motorola 16x4 DOCSIS 3.0 modem and the router portion first with my old sub $50.00 refurbished NetGear WNDR4500. But the router portion of the second Como unit C6300 got me hooked on the speed on it's WiFi side so I ordered up a new AC router. The new router arrived on Saturday and was then subjected to my torture test. They now owe me a check. Since the whole issue with the combo units was caused by the inability of being able to update the firmware in the router side without first having it tested and passed by my ISP and pushed out by them I decideded I want full control over the software side of things. The new router and the two older routers (all NetGear btw) can have several third party firmwares installed in them. I currently have DD-WRT v3.0-r29519 released on 4/25/2016 installed and undergoing testing on the WNDR3700V4 router.

Most of you folks would have had no issues with either of the two combo units.

My media collection when placed on an attached USB device caused the both of the combo units to fail in different but related ways. Both memory related when it should not have.

This is the current media collection size.

    ReadyDLNA status
    Audio files: 6259
    Video files: 361
    Image files: 2791

STB, was that was directly related to memory issues w/ DLNA -> the media Index database being stored in memory?

No issues w/ mini DLNA on your DD-WRT build ?

The memory issues were both caused by the storage of the index database and cover art cache in memory and issues that had long since been corrected in miniDLNA's scanning. The version of miniDLNA in one combo unit was 1.0.25 and 1.1.0 in the other. In the DD-WRT build in have on my WNDR3700V4 is current at 1.1.5 and the Index database and cover art are on the USB device. miniDLNA will put the Index database and cover art in memory if not told where to put it. On my WNDR4500 which runs 1.0.25 places it on the USB device. One screwed up configuration file and a bug in the scanning code in miniDLNA caused the trouble I had. In the help column in DD-WRT they warn you about this very issue.

ETA: I was able to work around the issue on the C6300 via a PERL script that shortened what was stored in the Index database. I am not keen on the cover art so what little I had back then I just edited out of the mp3 files.

Thank you for sharing that info. STB, I've been thinking about setting up an internal media server here - and will be going the DD-WRT route out-of-the-starting-gate, it's much appreciated.

    * Most folks would have given up on the 6300 issue, you are one persistent Bear.

Glad that everything is working the way it's supposed to for you now, Congrats!

Thought I had put my last bag in the hopper, but nope. Stove is back on enough that I needed to feed it again but this will give me a chance to try some new pellets as I may pick up a bag of Platinum's

Maybe for now but something tells me that the several thousand mp3 files sitting on my pc's HD just waiting for me to up load them to the drive attached to the router might change that situation.

You just have to be certain that the index database ends up on the USB drive to overcome most of the issues I ran into. So far the combo units are the only affected units. The scanner in some versions of the DLNA server has a memory leak, the Perl script helps tame that issue but creates one of its own. First it has to have enough memory to even run as it does a recursive descent into the directory structure containing the mp3 collection and it physically renames the structure and files making finding things in the new structure difficult. This renaming shortens every path name stored in the detail table of the index as well as every name stored in the object table of the index. There are 6 object table entries for every mp3 file and 1 detail table entry. My R6250, WNDR4500, and WNDR3700v4 all store the index database on the USB drive. I was very surprised when the combo units didn't.

I can be very persistent when it comes to finding workarounds or fixes for software issues. I have a long history that includes many wee small hours with a heavy iron computer in hardware single step or cycle mode and me sitting at the console.
