Not much of a mess to clean up Shawn and thank you for the lumber. It will be put to good use. Also thank you for the invitation. Let us hope we can get to your place one of these days. I may finish those benches too. You were probably the hardest worker there but there were several others who gave you a run for your money. I should have got on that splitter to race you but didn't want to shame you. You didn't eat enough. Too much left over. I think you did just fine on the drinking part though...
Men hard at work! A smiling walt . And a big thank you Walt for the wedges and file handles. So sorry I did not get a picture of the box of these you so graciously brought to the GTG.
HDRock and TurboDiesel getting it done! Our good neighbor Ron with the tractor. He even got stuck once! And this was not in mud either. lol But he was pulling a top. All was well in the road but when he turned onto our sandy lane, the sand stopped him. Not a problem though. We simply cut the top into 2 pieces and away he went. Nice action shot here of Shawn splitting. I wonder why they turned their backs on Pyroholic? He was making chips fly! There may be more pictures.
What an inspiration this thread is. Thanks for all of the background stories Backwoods Savage Dennis... and the many pics and vids too.
Man, am I envious of all you fellows !!! I would've really enjoyed being thrown into the mix, but twasn't in the stars for me....at least this year. Backwoods and the missus looked to be phenomenal hosts too.
Dex beat me to it on posting the milling video--good job Dex! I'm at work and haven't had a chance to watch the tutorial yet (reality sucks). Cool that others can at least get an idea of what it was like, glad I got to see it in person, though!
Really wish I could of been there to learn from the masters, was "stuck" in St Croix all week, maybe the next one. Looks like everyone one had a good time.
Did anyone get a pic of TurboDiesel's "Rock and Roll Tour Bus"? Man that is a sweet camper. When he mentioned having a "toy hauler", I thought he was talking about a trailer. Turns out it's some Transformers-edition camper or something - he flipped some kind of switch and the back opened up to an attached garage! I thought I passed him on the Ohio Turnpike on the way home too. Couldn't have been him though, cause that jerk was in the left lane backing up traffic for about 2 miles. I don't know if it was mentioned, but walt's homemade log arch was pure genius. It had a hook on a rising cross member, so as he drives forward, it lifts the end of the log. I'll have to see if my dad can help me build one like that. Thanks for the file handle and wedges too.
Thanks for sharing the photos guys and gals!!! 20/20 hindsight shows that I should've gone to the GTG vs. run in the retriever hunt test that I ran in on Saturday with my CLF. We failed miserably..................first hunt test she's EVER failed.........................OH WELL!!!! Hope there was no blood shed at this event.
I think I finally figured out whats on that road surface... a mix of sand, stone, clay and gorilla glue...............
Tim, it must be you are trying to get it off the truck and camper now. I think you have it pegged right too. We are trying to talk the county into a different mix now.
There was plenty of sweat, but I'm not aware of any blood shed. Well, except DexterDay got a pretty nasty sliver...
Looks like a good time was had by everyone. I wish i could have made it but things just didn't work out. If Dennis does this again next year i will plan ahead and try to make it for sure !
