Man, I hated it when they went after porcupines! I had one Heinz dog that apparently tried to pick up a baby porker - she had quills all the way down her throat (expensive vet visit). Baby quills are very soft so they are harder to keep the correct angle to pull out even when I was trying to pull them out of her face :hair:.

Another dog (90 lb. Lab/Samoyed mix) apparently rolled on a dead porker- had quills from his ear to his hind leg. Most of the quills were so deep only the white tips were outside the flesh. On a white dog, it is a nightmare to find them. He was red by the time we got most of them pulled :headbang:. He had quills backing out for weeks - I'd be petting him and feel a couple, pull them, then find more the next day. Good thing he was a mellow Mama's pup - otherwise I would have had to take him in for a vet visit too.

Still, even with mishaps like that, I miss those guys.

Oh man, that sucks. Thing is, he'll go right back after one. Mine never got tangled up with a porcupine but went hard into a beaver dam before. Had to pull them out of there before things got ugly, a 60 pound pizzed off beaver could do some damage I would imagine.

Still a little groggy today, we took it easy today, he laid in the sun and watched me split some wood for a couple hours.

Before I left the vet last night three more dogs came in for quill pulling!

Dave, I would hate to see your Vet bills. I know you have other family expenses.

That's life, money is a tool as far as I'm concerned. Not sure if it'd be cheaper to pay a shrink, but it sure wouldn't be as much fun!

This is TicTack our 12 y.o. greyhound boy. He's been limping for the last 2-3 weeks.

This is Hank. We shared our homewith him from 2001-2009 until he died of bone cancer (osteosarcoma) at age 13. It all started with a limp.
NOW THE GOOD NEWS! We took TickTack to the vet today and were terrified that he had cancer too. She (the vet) quickly decided that TickTack was limping because he had mildly injured his elbow. NO CANCER and NO LYME disease. All he needs is a course of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. WE WERE SOOOOOOOO RELIEVED.

That is great news Mike. My grandparents had a rescued greyhound many years ago. She was so gentle and friendly. They had a big fenced yard out behind the house. When they let her out, she would literally go run full tilt with grass flying up behind her. I had never seen such a fast dog up close like that.

Our little feral rescue Emma loves to be out on the screened porches. Always something to see. A skunk wandered in around 7pm last evening in the same spot. I didn't move for a picture.
