...so I can read stories like this and not sweat it (or in this case...freeze it ) Propane shortage adds to winter woes http://usnews.nbcnews.com/_news/2014/01/20/22372040-propane-shortage-adds-to-winter-woes?lite
We just had our first delivery since last May, 15 gallons. We just have the propane fireplace, this year we've burned more wood.
Yeah, that was fun. Getting up a 3am so you could get on a gas line and sit there for 4 hours waiting for the station to open. The reason was we were supposedly running out of oil! Ha, what a joke. I just checked, and home heating oil is $3.83 in my neck of the woods. They are blaming some kind of pipeline problem in the state capital for the high price and shortage of propane.
I have an oil furnace ,hope there isnt an oil shortage too. At the rate I burn it Id need a delivery in 2 years. <-----I like this little guy
Same up here. Price has jumped from .539/ltr. in may to .749/ltr last month to .949 this month. Truck backed up to our tanks last week to top up our back up system. Took a whole 24.7 ltr.(3.8 ltr = a gallon). Every time I look down @ the woodshed I smile. Love the way these industry-driven shortages occur when it suits them. Cold weather, so lets ram the customers.....you gotta love Capitalism.
With all the cold weather they just about doubled our electric rate last month without saying a word! Due to the cold and demand.. Went from 7 something cents to 14 cents per KWH... I said screw that, dropped Ambit and now have locked in @ 6.79 cents a KWH for 2 years.. Company said if you see we are lower just call and we'll give you that rate...
Heating oil just went to $3.88 a gallon. I like checking whenever there is a cold snap or a lot of snow. Makes me feel better about burning wood.
Guys coming today for oil,,, $3.75 a gallon.... Had 160 gallons delivered last year,,,, still have a 1/4 tank... Wife thought it might be a good idea to have enough oil in case something ever happens to me that I got hurt, etc... She pretty much knows how to run the stoves,,,, but with 3 dogs a cat and 14 chickens, she'd have enough to do working all day and then dealing with them... Full tank stops condensation as well, even though the tank's in the basement... So that should last almost 2 years...now that we are almost to the end of January...
Charlie, I had gotten 100 gallons back in August. We use it for the hot water heater. The furnace comes on during the night if the stove goes out when I don't get up in the middle of the night for a fill. Last night we went down to -3°. With the wind it was sucking the heat right out of the house. We have 2 dogs a cat and six chickens. Had three dogs but our Maltese passed away on Monday.
The pro-pain man man a visit yesterday. Dropped in all of 75 gallons. Last fill-up was somewhere around the end of November / early December. I heat DHW with propane, with takes about 20 gallons/month. I can live with a $50/month heat bill with this weather. Last two years I didn't even turn it on. Last fill-up was $1.99, this one was $2.39 - the most I've ever paid. Got up to $2.09 back in 2012.
