And to think, my grandfather was supposed to be on that ship. He was held up by something and did not get there on time...
Sombering. Parents took me to a mining town as a kid and there was a woman's portrait painted on the floor from way back when that I think was of the Unsinkable Molly Brown. Interesting post.
All I can say is wow. My 11 year old son is an avid fan of all things titanic so I will have to tell him about this. Glad to hear your grandfather wasnt on it otherwise.....
Also his birthday was yesterday. He is quick to tell people that it hit the iceberg on his birthday but sank the next day.
Lots of interesting Titanic stories. My employer owns this mansion set on a cliff over looking the Atlantic. It was built as a wedding present, the bride to be died on the Titanic, the groom never lived in the home. The shoreline in that area generally faces to the north and east. Interestingly, the shoreline where the mansion is built has a bit of a turn so that the mansion faces more to the East than North and is generally facing the Titanic sinking site. Today, it is used as a conference center and housing for visitors and students. In the summer, when the students come and they learn about the history of the mansion, it is not long before the ghost stories about the place start.
I took my wife to see the artifacts from the Titanic on the tour that was circulating a couple years ago. Eery stuff.
I didn't realize they rescued all the passengers as it limped back to Halifax.... Just saying.... I do love the stories surrounding the Titanic.
