I had to cough up about 6 grand one year just for the Feds. After that I had the deductions increased so I didn't have to pay so much and to avoid the penalties. Much different now that I don't work. Still pay too much tax but have it under control.

    Just finished our taxes.

We certainly paid our fair share again this year.

I remember back in the 70's the first year we made "decent" money. I did not have enough $$$ taken out. Claimed a bunch of phantom dependents to lesson the weekly blow without considering the end of year slam. I owed my entire end of year bonus to the Feds and then a bit more. The top tax rate back then was 70 some percent. Although not in the top bracket (200,000) I was high enough to pay a confiscatory tax. The company comptroller and I had many discussions about long term planning and legal tax avoidance that following year.

At today's tax rates I give uncle his vig with a smile.

People today who complain about federal tax rates either have selective memory or are too young to remember when uncle was a baron robber. Today property tax, sales tax, and other "hidden" fees are far more onerous than uncle regardless of tax bracket.

this is a better picture of the engine. it weighs 22 ton without the alternator (about 4 ton). it is 300HP at 400 RPMs. We saw this engine run in 2004 before we dismantled it and they tore the building down. it belongs to the Zagray Farm Museum and will be a running demonstration once we move it onto the foundation and build the building. I imagine it will run spring/summer of 2017. The other piers are for a 1928 Atlas Imperial diesel currently undergoing a restoration in my workshop at home. It weighs 8 ton and displaces 1856 cu in. (70 HP at 300 RPMs). below is a pic of the engine the day we saw it running. My good friend Ed is on the catwalk.

Uncle is pain, and I can't say any of the others are any better. You pay it and they spend that plus a whole lot more digging a hole to bury all the coming generations.

Well I just came up for air, did our federal through the health insurance crap and since that gave me what I needed to do the state I switched over and got Auntie's return all done, after I decompress I'll switch back to the other blunder. I have at least 10 times the paperwork this year than last because of being an official old toot. Got six 1095's because, Uncle (Medicare) screwed up.

Hey Larry, how did you do on the tax side this year?

Well on the good side TWC seems to be providing me email service again.

Oh well sent Uncle a letter with my tax forms because there was no way to complete the health insurance tax credit reconciliation with what I was sent by the Medicare folks.

Boy wasn't that just fun. I don't expect any additional taxes will be due but hell its the gubmint. In any event I'm through playing fill in the blanks.

I got a return! Even spent it already. Next year when I file, my military retirement is not subject to Maine Income Tax. I was able to cut back on my deductions to that. We can't itemize so we take the standard deductions.
We did our taxes in Feb. I pay to have them done. Glad every time they are behind us!

Glad to hear that Larry, Uncle's left and right hands are out to lunch. I'll get the state stuff back and should get the federal back.

Well according to my calendar and the reminder in my in box I need to pay my credit card bill next week at least I'll get paid before it is due. I also have real estate taxes due next month. Everybody has their hand out. What's a bear to do?

jt, how do you train a maintenance scheduling program?

Damp, cold , ahhhhh no make that a wet night last night.

Got home at 8:30 from a go scrounge up another stove road trip and the house is cold.

Build a nice fire in the big Whit and settle in for dinner and then hit the rack.

Stove is likely gonna stay on all day today..

Stove season is not dead yet.

I am surprised though that we are running the big one.

Just as glimpse of sun though and that will change quickly

Cool days here too - frost on the cars this am, wind is robbing any solar gain today. Stove is warming house nicely.

Stove is still on a good part of the day & all night: we would rather run the stove & save the oil. (Probably won't be on much Sun. & Monday though.)

Been picking up 10 bags of pellets/day: 1 ton down, 1 to go. Need to create more room in the woodshed to stuff more pellets in there today, in-between IT jobs. Very busy here, Busy is good.. More Pellets & Beer.

    Stay warm folks!
