Hi guys, old power outlet is white /copper/black in that order. New outlet directions say copper and black and red. Black /copper /Red Any ideas?
If its the same style, just swap it wire for wire. 220 has two hot wires and one neutral-- the D shaped portion is the neutral and the L shapes are hot.
Just realized, I gave you the pinout for the outlet I have, not necessarily the one you have. Mileage may vary.
No worries, it was exactly what I was asking. Going to copy exactly how the old one is and see if the fuse box trips after I turn it back on. And yes, the new one and old one are almost identical. I'd love to show you pics, but my phone is not sending pics today, only typing
Almost done, turned the breaker back on and all seems fine I need to google, I cannot figure out how the clamp for cord stress goes on. Right now I have it IN the box, doesn't seem quite right.
I turned my phone off, then on and several pics went through old, new, and how does this clamp fit? Last pic is the the new one mounted and hooked up showing clamp on inside....
Someone here, I think basod (?) told me my wires may be different colors than the new outlet, I ran through my bookmarks and could not locate it Hey, atleast he made sure I hung the darn thing up the right way, THANKS!!
wildwest You don't have a neutral the black and white are your two hot feeders and the bare copper is the ground. You should have a cable clamp into the bottom of the receptacle for "legal" installation
Basod, how does that fit? It's loose in there now, two stubby screws on the bottom and clamp has 2 matching channels, so I can mount is outside or inside?
It's a pipe thread fitting with a thin nut that goes on the inside of the receptacle box You need a 3/4" judging from both the knockouts missing 3/4 in. Non-Metallic (NM) Twin-Screw Clamp Connectors (5-Pack)-20512 - The Home Depot
Finally got the retainer clamp on the dryer ponytail on thanks to WWW muscle after he got home, and lil one was thrilled to help by holding the flashlight for us
I plugged everything in a bit ago and turned the power on, new dryer sang a fun lil song and is ready to go. Thank you to all of you that assisted me, I am grateful for the help Thanks again!!!
I was tripped up on the "instructions" grouping both hots together, I assumed they had to go on specific terminal posts. You must have ESP, your one sentence cleared everything up for me. Thanks
