So once again I was having a stick roundup today. I cannot believe those trees have any shedding left after the past few weeks! Anyways it turned out to be OK after I ran across these.

Just some small ones, but still made it worth it picking sticks.

I also found a little time for the Fiskars getting some rounds ready for the splitter.

It was chilly this morning, but nothing that a little hand splitting couldn't cure. It was whiteout snowing a few times yesterday and picking mushrooms today. Sure wish spring would either $&!+ or get off the pot!

Can't really mistake a morel for anything else though. I've got a few weeks before I start seeing them.

    It was a great day!

They will be coming on hard here this week with sunshine and near 70* temps!

Morels are the only variety that I will pick and eat from the woods. Too many chances to get it wrong. As stated though, a Morel is almost impossible to mistake.

We're getting absolutely soaked with rain today, then sun and 70's this week. The south facing hillsides should have some on them by the weekend.

I've heard of a few people finding them, but they are few and far between. The place I hunt is a little later than most...usually still finding fresh gray's during the first week of turkey season...and yellows at the end.

Something I don't understand. Using the Fiskars to get ready for the splitter?

I don't like splitting vertically, and most rounds too big for me to lift safely. I use the Fiskars to get them man sized, then finish with the hydraulic so I can have better control over shape and size. Odd, I know but works for me!
