For sure Whitey is Mighty too and so is his dog! Good for you Whitey to help the man out. No doubt he is a fool but he is still human and needed the help you gave. Sadly, too many would have just stood by and stared or taken pictures rather than do what was necessary. For the guy, he sounds like a real loser and it is hard to tell if he would learn anything from this or not. But hopefully he will learn to at least ask questions before doing something like this. Too many times we hear or read about people doing this sort of thing and sadly, many get killed or really seriously injured worse than that man did. One thing to remember is that this sort of thing is where the statistics come from. People holler about how dangerous it is to do this sort of thing and they go by how many have gotten hurt, like this man did. But if people use common sense, it is rare for accidents to happen where broken bones or worse happen. They can still happen but by learning proper methods of working, we can keep them at a minimum and not have to be afraid when we go out cutting. Let's hope all of us can still keep on enjoying the cutting we do. And you must have trained that dog very well Whitey. Now the big question is, did you continue on to the beverage store?
She is very well trained, Dennis. Has field titles and all health clearances also. Depending when she "comes into season" I'll be breeding her. Have the stud dog picked out already. That said, if'n she decides to come "in" later.............early/mid July at the latest..............I'm entering her in the HRC Fall Grand in KY in September. If I breed her later than early July, I'll lose her for hunting season....................as my old guy cannot go any longer as he's suffering from Laryngeal Paralysis, and has a hard time breathing. I did continue to the store.................all pix were taken on my way back!!! Here's my girl.......
Sounds like he zigged when he should have zagged. Lucky for him you were in the right place at the right time. Btw good dog. wish mine had that kind of attention span.
WOW Good you were there to help till the medics arrived """" Good 1st at the scene first aid !! """" Did he have any injuries from the saw ? Was the saw still running when you got there? (Saw get crushed ? )
For some reason this reminded me of the old Keystone Beer commercial --where Keith Stone climbs up the tree to rescue the cat. But this was much more serious than that, good job Whitey!
No saw injuries that I could see. The saw was probably 20ft. from him when I got there and not running.................probably less than 2 minutes after it happened.
Hope the guy is going to be OK. A hard way to learn, but it will be remembered for the rest of his life, no doubt. As others have said, good reaction on your part also. I'm sure it helped put him at ease with you being there before EMT showed up.
The internet is littered with videos of this exact scenario, yet people still try it. Hope he heals up. Glad you were there to help him out.
I hope the guy is going to be OK. There's so much information on the internet at your fingertips today, so it just makes sense to do some research before doing something you have never done before, especially if it's something that can be dangerous
X2 on all the above posts. Thank God you happened by MightyWhitey . Kudos to you and no doubt his mother on the porch is grateful. You know about Karma.......
But how is one to tell if the research he does is good or not? For example, research on youtube and you find so much junk it is pathetic. So people see this and try the same thing... Tough call. I'll not forget the video I saw one time a guy just bought a hydraulic splitter and rather than splitting the log all the way through, he split it partway then used muscle to finish breaking it apart. Surely slowed down the splitting and watching him work, well, the splitter is supposed to save you work, not make you work harder. Geeze...
I'm saying some research is better than nothing, if he had done some research on how to cut a branch off that might not have happened
Making mistakes is an important part of learning, but I prefer to learn from other people's. I think I have a pretty good sense of when I'm "in over my head". Not everybody has that I guess. Great job with the first response! But...... Did you ask him if you can have the firewood?
