Probably not if it sounds funky.

Still had a distributor even if it's fuel injection. Don't think they had coil packs yet in that era. But if those or a module in the distributor is bad they don't sound "off" they just won't run or will run whanky.

OK, 351M, got it, makes sense now. Yeah I am of no use but I did just sell my old F250 with a 351W.

Post up some more details of what it is doing in a new thread here. Plenty of guys will help.

Great thread Kyle, I think you'll continue to be very pleased with that 362 and it'll give you years of service!

Very glad you stuck with it and worked through the problems. Rebuilding them can be frustrating and no, flipping isn't really worth the time & effort from a monetary standpoint - it has to be something you enjoy. Hell, I've sold a lot of flippers at no profit, I just love to make 'junk' machines work again! On the other hand, I do have what I believe to be a fairly impressive collection of saws that were completely paid for with flipping profits...

Pretty much any of Thsee well known forums have straight up guys on them. I have done several deals and transactions though people here. Made freinds through each one of them. Thas the good thing about these places. Someone has always been around longer than you and they will speak up about a person good or bad. But most folks are not here to screw someone. I promise you it would only happen once...they would be trashed if they screwed someone and it would not work again. And I also don't think many places would allow a brand new poster to sell something without a history on the site...or at least someone may raise an eyebrow and a new member instantly selling something after they join.

Ya I tell clemsonfor, actually there have been a lot of people that I asked ALOT of questions and I was very surprised, but they stuck with me and by gosh it all worked out great.... I remember when I first joined I was about to buy a brand new 461, and I picked a lot of guys brains, and they all gave me good honest information, and that is valuable info if you ask me.... You see I have lurked on this site and another that starts with an A for a long, long time and I joined the sites when I got this "fancy" phone.... I tell ya I am glad I did, and I can only hope to help someone in the future the way a lot of you guys have done me.... I was always Leary of the Internet, and there is wierdos out there, but I have yet to find any on these sites!!!

Anyway thanks to all your guys help, and I am always open for suggestions, tips, and tricks of any kind, I love running saws and cutting wood, as I have been doin it since my dad that it was appropriate to hand me the ol ms170 stihl many years ago....people think you ain't right when you tell them you like to cut wood, but then again I don't think people like hard work in general..... Thanks Kyle!!!!!

    Kyle,

Nice job on the 362! MasterMech is right a good 250 is a solid saw! It's a keeper. In fact, after owning a ms241, I can't think of much that the extra :makeitrain" gives you over the 250 and a good ear for saw tuning. Unless you just have to have an auto tune. Don't get me wrong the 241 is a fantastic light saw, but it's pricey. Good luck with the truck.

Longevity. As good as the 250 is, the 241 has much better air filtration and oiling systems. Both of which are the Achilles heel of the 025/250. Not such a bad trade off for the average Harry Homeowner or even the serious firewood hoarder. But to a tree service or other daily user, it would be priceless.

You got me there. Good airfilter on the 241. For pro use I'd spend the extra 50 bucks and deal with the little extra weight for the 261 or even a husky 550xp. To it's credit the 241 was pretty agile and didn't mind having its bar buried in hardwood. I think I just expected too much from it for the money. To each his own I guess.

Two very different handling saws (241/261). I was amazed at how much lighter and more maneuverable the 241 was over my 261. Spunky little thing it was too. Of course, my ported 261 is much better at bucking small trunks but if I had it to do over, I'd prob do something like the 241 for cleanup, a 6100 for the daily driver and a 661 for when there's serious work to be done.

A fine plan indeed. Great choices to be sure. I didn't care for the single bar stud on the 241 I sold. It was fiddly to get the chain tension the way I wanted it.

I used to be a diehard Stihl guy. It's all I'd run. I didn't care for the huskies. They are better these days but I still prefer stihl to husky. However, since trying a few Dolmars (the 7910 I have now among them), I'm pretty impressed.

I'm pretty happy with the echo 490 I replaced the 241 with as well. Out cuts the 241 and the weight/handling is pretty close. The filtration on it isn't as good as the 241 though. Every saw has compromises. Time will tell how it holds up.

It's too bad really that they went to a single bar stud. I didn't mind it but I doubt many would have noticed the extra weight of two. It's hard to find a better 40cc saw than the 241. But that price tag just scares everybody off.

It really is a shame. It's a blemish on an otherwise great saw that is best in the 40cc class. I think the dolmar 421 is close. Pretty hard to beat for the price. It's kind of porky though. I thought the 543xp was a bit of a turd.

Ya I love my 250... Any my "3-saw plan right now is the 250, 362, and 461.... With my back up as my ol trusty 290 as a back up....

Oh and master tech, I am sure you are right on the 241 having better oiler and what not... As you say, probably great for a guy running one for 8 hours a day....

Hey barcroftb, I have never ran a dolmar.... What stihl pro saw is the 7910 comparable to... If it's about the size of the 362, how would you compare them... What are the pros and cons compared to the stihls you have ran????
Just curious like I said I haven't ran a husky or dolmar.....

It's about 80cc so it would be close to the ms650. But it's between the 460/1 and 660/1

Edit: just looked it's 78.5cc so it would be closet to the 461
