For 3 or 4 days the wind was really blowing here in Illinois. First day which was last friday, the winds were in the 70's. Saturday was in the 50's, more downhill wind speeds from there. Now... its raining every day.
See, whatcha gotta' do is sneak up on it......go do something else. As soon as you do, the wind will stop and you can go quick to drop those trees. Make sure you have the saw and stuff ready. A little rain isn't gonna hurt ya....it's only water.

The rain makes it too scary slick for this old man. Like Harry said: "A man's got to know his limitations."
I hope you have insurance for that roof repair. That is going to cost unless you are the DIY guy who is comfortable on a roof two stories high.
Wind's howling here too with horizontal rain. Better than the snow last night. At least it got a little warmer. Sorry about your roof Deer Meadow Farm ... hope your insurance takes care of it.
It's windy too here. I've been trying to find a weekend for my brother and I to take down a large dead ash tree that's close enough to hit the house, but it seems to rain on the days we're both free. Just this past Saturday the winds were high enough that it knocked an 8" brand out of the top of that tree.
This thread makes me think I better walk out and have a look up at the roofs. Although I think I am fine I did have some siding starting to come loose a couple weeks ago and caught that before it became a major project.
So far, this winter is one of the few that I haven't lost some shingles. I have a couple bundles that match for replacement as needed. Was nice mild winter for here
It's been snowing most of the day here but thankfully above freezing (barely) so no accumulation...yet. And I see 5 more inches forecast for the weekend. This is beginning to get a bit old.... Time for some Spring weather.
