Not that long ago someone was saying they were done for this season. Temperature in teens overnight and didn't get above freezing until around noon today. But, it was sunny and nice. Now they are forecasting possible 3-5" snow tonight and tomorrow with possible ice too and maybe turn to rain tomorrow. Not forecast to see 50 degrees until next Monday. Is this April or December?
Winter seems to be hanging on this year. Got a lot of outside work to do, some seasonal 50 degree temps would be nice--no one likes to see snow in April. I hope we don't go from winter straight to summer. I really enjoy the 50's and 60's!
If it makes y'all feel any better, where I'm at (way further south) we are expecting some snow though be it less than an inch starting Friday into Saturday this week. Friday high of 51 with the low being 30 degrees, and Saturday with the high being 38 degrees and the low of 23 degrees. Next week we will be having temperatures in the 50's and 60's with overnight lows in the low to mid 40's with the winds settling down too. I don't foresee any more low temperatures like this weekend. So that also means spring yard work can commence including yard cleanup, planting, and of course mowing the lawn. I don't expect to stop heating/burning for at least another month. We have also had snow into April as I recall. So really it's not out of the ordinary.
Well we know for sure that some parts of NC can really be nice so we understand why you like it there Star Gazer.
I've had to mow and weed eat already with the nice warm spell but back now burning 24/7 apparently through the week-still my burn amount is right at 2 cord, far less than my usual 3-3.5 so hopefully it ends soon
Backwoods Savage sir I struggle to make it to April 1, and it was a challenge this year as the warm spell sprouted up grass clumps I could lose a dog in, so I mowed on Sunday and it's going to be 70 tomorrow then right back down into the 30's-As Star Gazer indicated, I think come next Monday we are done with it along with my neighbors to the south
But we do have winters though not nearly as harsh as y'all. I started burning this season on September 14th, 2015 but the real winter with snow, freezing temperatures, and high winds didn't start until mid January which is about normal for us. I don't particularly care for the cold or snow, but sometimes you need to take the good with the bad. Spring, Summer, and Fall are awesome where I'm at. My last fire for last season 2014/2015 was June 3rd! Not a big fire, but something to take the chill off. I tend to take pictures of the stove so I have the first burn and the last burn on sort of a record. Mowing the lawn here usually starts the 2nd to 3rd week of April. I have seen some already going at it that live closer to town and I believe it was some lawn service.
The temperature here only made it up to 48 degrees today. For tomorrow they say it's supposed to hit 55. Maybe perhaps I should just move up and over to "West By God Virginia" for some warmer temperatures!
Yep been warmer here also and the wind. Gusts up to 55 today. So I went out side and sorted out some of my uglies to burn since the temps are kind of like shoulder season. Short hot fires to warm it up in the morning and that is about it.
Grass has been mowed twice here and I have a new Husqvarna tractor coming tomorrow so I might actually enjoy mowing for a short time again. Burning 24/7 since the weekend again but tomorrow it will go out after tonight's load, then back up tomorrow night and 24/7 probably through the weekend. Snow possible for Sat.
Grass no last nite was 9 degrees tonight supposed to be 10 never got above freezing...so we are still
Well perhaps you should consider it lady---revised forecast now has us dipping into the 20's after 70 tomorrow but next Monday is still the goal-we made 55 today but clearing and dropping quickly-on a side note--I've been burning all ash for the last couple weeks, got home from work and put just one split of locust in the Fireview,,,,I now have the windows open because the split pushed it up to 77 degrees in no time-man that's wicked stuff!!!!! I'd have to have cold, sustained temps to even burn that by itself---I have 2 cords ready to go for next winter....
Ashwatcher, I have been burning a lot ash.. over nights like now just loaded with ash... in day times been mixing with pine to keep house warm but not to hot.. currently 11 with 15 mph nw wind... maybe I should move to west by God Virginia too.
Plenty of cold yet...... https://www.wunderground.com/news/cold-april-2016-great-lakes-northeast-midwest
Be glad to have you Canadian border VT -I'd be burning the locust in those temps....sounds like a nice mix you're burning-don't do pine here, my low btu's come from cherry and maple-as I mentioned on another thread-ash and beech is my favorite blend I think when given the option and opportunity...it's all good,,,we love our craft and passion
Coldest April 5th since 1975 here today. I don't think we broke 30 F. Edit: they are not calling for 50 F here until the 17th of the month.
