image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg Well guys I have successfully completed my first rebuild..... So I got the ms362z off of a guy that used the saw as a drill to drill holes in telephone poles.... Well the saw had a broke clutch, broke worm, no clutch, no bumper spike, broke pull cord, bad carb, and was missing LOTS of bolts and screws!!! I also had to sand out a part on the cylinder and piston because previous owner had used a flathead screw driver to block the piston to get the clutch off LMAO.... People always amaze me!!!!!

So with that said I started looking on the chainsaw sites and found a parts saw from one guy and the rest of the parts from another guy....the guy that I got the parts saw off of actually sent me the saw and I didn't even have a papal account.... To say the least when the parts saw arrived from a guy that I never knew and hadn't paid yet, I was shocked... Needless to say I got him his money as fast as humanly possible.....

So when the parts arrived I would work on the saw a little after I got off of work, and when I wasn't getting firewood....along the way I learned a lot and I dont know how many times I had the damm carb on and off the saw LOL.....when I actually thought I had the saw completely done and put back together, I went to start the saw, and she would idle for awhile then die, well after reading the IPLs and the manuls many times I found out that i had a gasket between the carb and filter housing that didn't even belong anywhere on the saw, it was on the saw when I got it so I figured it went there LOL.... Well come to find out it was blocking a hole on the carb and manifold, and when I took it off and re-assembled her, she started, idled, and ran absolutely perfectly LOL!!!!!!

So yesterday I got to take her In The woods and cut up some black walnut... Well I wondered how much better she would be than my ol trusty ms290, and I tell you this saw has a smooth power band and a lot of torque I think.... I leaned on her to see what she had and she powers right threw the cut really well even in 18" or so walnut....so any way I have $300 in the saw, and have many parts from the parts saw left if anything was to brake, so I feel I didn't "lose" money so to say.... All In all it was a fun project and I learned a lot from it, so I am already looking for another saw to do LOL....Kyle

Gratifying feeling, eh? The rebuilds add up quick in parts, especially for OEM. I kind of gave up on rebuilding flip saws as there wasn't enough money in it to justify the time. If I find a keeper for myself, then no big deal.

Now, where did you say you posted that video??

Yes very gratifying....Ya I can see what your sayin about not making enough money to justify selling saws... You about have to get them for nothing, and if crank bearings are bad you have some problems ahead.... If a guy could buy them for right $$$ and just put a new piston and maybe carb in it wouldn't be so bad....

I will be keeping my eye out for a 261, and maybe a 661 to rebuild.... The 261 would complete my "3 saw" plan so that would be great.....so if anyone know where a 262 is that needs some work let me know LOL....

Ya I am just goin to keep the 362 for my self, and with some love she should last me a very long time!!!!!!
I got a video of when I started her, but not cutting yet... It's take too long to load I will try again later.... Kyle

I'd skip the 261 if you are keeping the 362. Look for a 241 or a ms260/026 instead. They would be much better suited to the role I'm sure you have in mind.

ThE ms362 is awsome. I'm surprised it didn't rebuild itself!

Congrats on bringing one back from the parts pile.

As long as that 250 runs well, what else do ya want from a small saw? Lol.

Well once agian master tech you are right..... Let me say right now that I love my ms250 and have ZERO problems in 3 or 4 years of good use.... She was at one time my only saw, and I have noodled and bucked oak and hickory that her 18" bar shouldn't have been anywhere near ....so ya as far as my saw line up right now I am setting pretty....I guess rebuilding the 362 made my CAD addiction even worse, and sub consciously I just want to rebuild another LOL...

Clemsonfor, hey thanks a lot ya with the way she ran in the woods the other day I was wondering how anyone killed her in the first place lol.... I can tell she will probably be my new got to saw!!!!

It's crazy I have all my saws running like tops, and my damm firewood truck dies on me today.... I have got to get her fixed asap so I can keep these saws in the timber!!!!!!!

I don't know what year your 250 is, but the same thing happened to my 2007 F150 5.4 and it turned out to be the fuel pump modulator driver.

That's how it goes. Get one thing fixed and another thing tears up.

Ya it will all work out just drives a guy nuts some times.....Mitchnewton she is old lol, she is a 89 f250.... I thought the power steering was goin bad, but found out last night starter gear was cracked, so I thought ok no problem I can fix that pretty fast....well hell no I get starter back on and go to start her and no go.... I actually kind of scared now the engine turns over, put I can tell something is wrong because she is t trying to fire... The fan belts spinning but you can hear that something isn't engaging right, sounds like something is just spinning and not engaging or working.... Sometimes it never ends, so ya guys if you have any ideas go ahead and throw them at me....I am no mechanic, but I fix all my vehicles and equipment my self, just did rear-end leaf springs on this truck a month ago and that was a rusty nightmare!!!!)!!:hair::doh:

Pull the distributor cap and see if the rotor spins when it cranks. Also check that it's pointing to the correct plug wire.

This will tell you if everything is connected internally. Rules out timing chain and distributor out of time.

Will it start if you spray starting fluid or carb cleaner into the intake throat?

Do Clem's suggestion first. Easier and could save a bunch of time.

Your right though MM. If it won't start and has funky rattling noises and sounds wanky trying to start. Pull the cap and look at what MM is describing.

Oh I meant to add it is getting gas as I can see it coming from carb... I can definitely tell something is not working or engaging and you can hear that something ain't right....

I was where you were about 18 months ago. Yea there is no time for anything. He is 2.5 now. It's getting to the point where I can have him with me doing something else or watching and kind of do small other tasks. He still will run off but it's getting better.

Why does an '89 F250 have a carb? I thought they went to fuel injection '87 and up??

I am not even a backyard mechanic but could this be ignition module related?
