So yesterday I was thinking: I'll just take it easy and lay around the house tomorrow. My back was influencing this thinking as it's been kinked up pretty good the last week or so. Change in plans. Got up feeling much less sore and achy than I'd predicted. Well, better get something done today....so I headed out and had a good time today. Down the road to the ROW Nice view today Pulled some oak Then went to blaze a boundary so the new lessors next door dont have any trouble finding it and cut some vines What great camo. I almost painted this guy bright yellow and he made me jump when he scrambled. Can you see him? How about now? Not very common to see these in my experience in these parts. I used to catch much smaller ones off my Dad's logpiles back in the day, but never saw one this big. He was probably 5" overall! Hell, I don't even know what they are for sure...always called them log lizards. Can anyone educate me? Got back to the tractor and found some tracks. I presume these are from that lizards much bigger brother! So much for a lazy day!
You did pretty good today, Lazybones I wouldn't think that would be a "Skink" would it? Maybe.......they love wood piles in VA, never saw one in a tree. Them other tracks look like they belong to a Gobbler, No?
Great photos. I've been nursing a bad back for the past couple weeks too, so it is nice to "cut wood" vicariously.
So I learned that the lizard is a Northern Fence Lizard. Was really cool to run across him. He was on the sunny side of that rotten oak until I scared him. Figure he's feasting on the bugs. Yeah, them be Gobbler tracks. Indeed. I was attempting to be funny. Got all sizes. Mostly 3/4" or so on this little ridge. Loppers will grab up to 2", folding Corona saw handles the rest. Seems like I'll never get done, but have cleared ~120ac thus far of them. Have tried many methods and you can't beat a sharp machete, loppers, and a good folding saw. You just wear yourself out with chainsaws and such in these hills.
I feel so much better today than I did last week. Tripping, slipping and falling down running around in the woods musta put me straight. Forest chiropractor! I'll be back to splitting next weekend weather permitting!
I worked on a freight dock from 18 to 22. For some reason, I started having issues around 21. I overdid it last weekend and had to pay the piper. I have noticed that I'm starting to become more resilient as the weather breaks and I'm starting to recondition muscles that have been idle most of the winter.
