Got a little breezy here last night. This morning I was letting a couple of the dogs out around 8:30 when I hear a cracking noise. I look out towards the edge of the woods where the chicken coop is located and watched this tree come down.

It's a Jack Pine that died early last year and I didn't get around cutting it down. It was on the agenda to be done in the next couple weeks but it got moved to the front of the line today.

Fortunately it didn't do much damage to the actual coop and we didn't lose any birds. But it did make a mess of the chain link panels that form the run. A couple of them will need replaced.

    A couple close ups.

And a half an hour later it was cut up, most of the brush on a pile to be burned and 3 - 10' logs laying there to be cut up at a later date.

Not how I had planned on spending Sunday morning.

Glad there was no serious loses or damage.

Here on Long Island, NY we have constant 30-35 knot winds with gusts to about 50-55 knots. Temperatures in the mid 30s. Lots of branches down but no full trees visible from the house yet. Intermittent power failures but nothing longer than a few minutes so far. Some heavy snow squalls this morning but everything melted as soon as the sun came up.

With the cool temps and wind we have a small fire going to keep the house comfortable.

That sucks, but glad the damage wasn't substantial and you didn't lose any birds. Have the winds subsided there?

I'd say we're down to 20mph sustained with 30mph gusts. Looking at the same for the rest of the day according to the weather guru's

New Hampshire had a wind blown tree fatality last week and Ma. had one this week with a couple tragically losing their lives. It is hard to fathom the chance of a tree landing on your vehicle while underway.
