It keeps on getting darker out so we'll wait until this thing clears, guess I'll sharpen some chains.
I have a branch that looks like that on the mulberry in my back yard. It was hanging over the tool shed roof so I got on the shed roof last summer and shortened it a lot. The part that is still attached to the tree is only about 6 feet long now and only about 7 or 8 inches diameter where I cut it off. Unfortunately it would be ladder work to remove the rest and I won't operate my saw from a ladder ever.
I ended up taking a bunch of rakers down with the grinder today. I found some 18,20 & 28 inch chains that I put in storage over the winter, they were in a different area from all the other chains. Two of the four were sharp so I'll do the other two tomorrow morning.
I finished cutting the Sugar Maple and then rolled it down the hill to the splitting area, we'll get some nice wood out of this. We'll see what we get for wind tomorrow and then we'll split this.
Wind is 20 to 25 mph 1/2" on the ground, started snowing about 20 minutes ago again, snowing like crazy now
It looks like the snow and big winds are staying well south of us, the wind that we do have makes it feel like winter.
This is the Sugar Maple I rolled down the hill yesterday, I'm not sure how much it is but we're happy with it.
It's nice to have plenty of the better wood in the stacks for those cold months. I was telling Sav that this is the first year we won't have 20 f/c or 6+ cord of Cherry in the stacks, we'll try and have 10 f/c by fall.
I don't have near as much cherry as I once did in the stacks but still a good bit. I don't really separate my stacks it all gets stacked. I have been blessed to have a pretty good choice of variety in species so I will go after something a little better than cherry if it is to be had. That said I do like cherry and will also have some in my arsenal as it is very plentiful around these parts.
I was thinking that we only have a couple more good size Maple down, this one is up on one of our highest hills so it should be an easy roll down the hill. Sugar or Soft Maple? | Firewood Hoarders Club This hill usually has a few trees come down over the winter so I'll make sure it's clear before I make the run up.
Could these root masses be tamed and kept from barber chairing by use of a few 4x's to act as props? I know you already got it to a manageable spot, so really just curious about that idea thewoodlands
