I'll have to try that with the loud drunk inconsiderate disrespectful retired SOB's that live too close to me at the cottage!
My goals for this year: shoulder holster. concealment vest. pocket gun-any suggestions for caliber? .380?
.380 seems to have all the best small guns. The old lady just picked up a lil ruger and its big compared to some of the others.
depends on your definition of pocket gun, but I really like the Glock 42. Kimber makes a really nice 380 also. The sub $300 Ruger LCP is more "pocket" carry friendly but harsh to shoot. The P238 Sig is an excellent choice also. The only drawback is the price. $599. This is really pricey for a .380 pistol.
Take him a burger and beer over some night, maybe you can change his tune. Never know. People change. Maybe he just needs a friend.
I actually prefer shooting the Ruger LCP to the LC9s. The 9 has a different grip profile. The LCP .380 does have some flip to it, but it returns pretty easy and doesn't beat you up in the process. I like that lil' thing. edit- However, I do have small hands. Keep that in mind.
The last thing I want to do is throw gas on a fire! It s just a case where they may think "everyone loves a drunk". I have offered endless help (whenever I'm down there). This year, if it starts up again, I will have a talk to them and go from there.
Pocket guns, I had the first lcr that came through my local shop. I everyday pocket carried that gun for 4 years. Until it plain had too much and stopped working. It wasn't worth fixing. Went to a Smith MP340. It's not that much bigger shoots better defense ammo and is actually more accurate. The combo of short sight radius and small slide to barrel contact has never impressed me with pocket auto loaders.... check out an The MP340, but be warned. Not cheap.
I'm the same. I've put about 1500 rounds through my lcp, I don't find the recoil bad at all. Heck, my mom likes shooting it as well and the only other handgun she's ever shot is a .22. I do find the LC9 a tad punishing to the back of your hand with it's slim grip. For the price, I think the LCP is hard to beat. If it wears out, I'll probably pick up another one. Like bobdog, I also have a j-frame revolver (mine's a 337). I don't carry it as often as it is noticeably more bulky, but it's also more accurate and arguably more reliable being a revolver. But mine is also too light, it's got the aluminum frame and titanium cylinder and it's not fun to shoot a box of 50 out of. I'll probably replace it with either a 642 or 442 which has a steel cylinder and is much more mild to shoot, and they can be found for around $400. My buddy has a Kahr CW380 which is a pretty nice pocket gun as well, and also around the $400 price point.
Gonna finally turn my lower into a scary black rifle. Other than that, shoot more. Improve trap and pistol scores.
That reminds me, my FIL has been asking me to go shoot trap with his buddies for awhile now. They shoot every Friday night at a course one of his friends built (this friend has MONEY). I've been putting it off, partially because they play for money and I don't want to be embarrassed by a bunch of 70 year old men with their $3000 guns and me with my 870 pump. But who knows how much longer my 70 year old FIL will shooting, and I surely don't want to regret not going with him some day.
Go with him. I'm sure they'll give a bunch of tips and advice until you can ALMOST hold your own. And they might just let you go a round with one of those fancy trap guns. You'll have a blast.
I used to be a really good shot with a shotgun, I'm just out or practice now. And my FIL is already keeping a nice shotgun in my safe (Beretta SV10 Prevail) that he really wants me to use. But I've shot it before hunting doves, and I've found I don't shoot it nearly as well as my 12 GA 870 or my 20 GA Ruger Red Label. I just know he's going to get his feelings hurt if I don't shoot the nice gun that he's practically given to me.
