Grizzly Adam- it sounds like you've got some serious plans...... Would you share with everyone your motivations? I for one am curious about how our members see their world, and the larger surroundings..... If you don't wish to elaborate, that's fine. Either way, I respect the level of commitment I read about on so many different topics here at FHC- we sure have diverse yet often similar pastimes. I think it's great!
Rossi. More jump than a Weatherby from what I've read, but I've not done a chamber cast, nor will I probably.
Good idea. If she is comfortable handling the weapon, she can be better prepared to respond when it is needed.
I plan on making one of those ar15's this year. I already have a lower, now to determine what I want out of it, and what parts to put on it.
Yes sir- she got her C & C a few months back, so I want her to handle her pistol with a second nature ease.
Word of advice, build a basic 5.56 rifle. You can always change out parts as you want to upgrade..... Besides, once you get the bug you'll be building more anyway.
My dad had a stainless mini-14 in .223. I shot quite a few rounds through it before he sold that, and got the same gun, but in 6.8 Remington SPC. Much better for his deer hunting needs than the .223 was, but much pricier to shoot.

Yes I have one, friggin omnivorous. ....veering off course. Captain, we need a course correction! Make it so number 1......

Well, its really all about family isn't it? I want to do everything I can to protect the ones I love if the time should come that I need to. Putting rounds through a target is fun and all, but its not really training is it? As for qualifying with Grandpa's rifle, well he hunted pheasants with the thing because he didn't have a shot gun so I would say he certainly qualified on it. I would like to put my own history along side his.
Springfield M1A variants, there are a few. The only detractor are that they will be a bit heavier than an AR-10 style. Yes- they are pricey. Yes- they are worth saving up for. The M1A-SOCOM CQB is totally on my wish list.
