I know that wedges are not power equipment but are used with a chainsaw so I thought this would be the proper place to ask this question. I want to buy some wedges but don't know of a good source. I looked on fleabay and to get a good price I have to buy ten and spend $50.00.

I just get them from the local Stihl dealer and they are between $5 and $10 I think, maybe less. I imagine someone on Amazon has some you can get for cheap and have them to your door by Thursday.:dex:

I've bought them at a dealer, Paul Bunyan show (great prices), TSC and ordered from Bailey's.

I ordered a 3 pack of 8" husqvarna wedges on eBay for about $25 or so. There are lots of options on the bay if you go there - not sure why you only saw a 10pk for $50. Search Husqvarna Wedges and you'll find lots of options. Cheers!

OK, so what sizes and how many wedges would be needed?

What are they being used for? There is a big difference between a steel wedge for splitting and a plastic one for holding a kerf open.

I generally have 3 on hand when I cut. Small to Big, you never know when you'll need them. As all the above have stated, TSC are about the best price to walk in and buy. There all about the same price but you don't need 10. ;)

The ones I have I found at a local ranch store here. I have some long ones and some short ones depending on the size of the tree I am cutting.

why not just get a piece of hardwood and cut it into a wedge...........free
make as many as you want/need and after you booger it up you can burn it.
some times I think we over think things
after all we burn wood to SAVE money :makeitrain"

To help persuade a tree to fall in the direction I want it to fall.

If all you are using them for is holding a kerf open while bucking, I'd say great idea. If your using them for felling stay away from homemade hardwood wedges. Don't ask me how I know.

The best ones I've found for felling trees are the HardHead wedges... pic shows a couple of the 12" ones I just bought.

    HardHead-Wedges.JPG

I buy them HERE and if you enter coupon code (on checkout) FREESHIP you'll get free shipping even on orders under $99 or if your order is over that, you'll get free shipping, anyway... so use coupon code ONLINE for 7% off.

I have four 8" felling wedges and a couple 5" wedges for keeping the kerf open when bucking. It's sometimes nice to double up the wedges when felling to get some extra lift - I used to keep 6 larger wedges but chewed up two and haven't replaced. Cheers!

Get the cheapest plastic wedges you can find! For part time/amateurs like us, wedges are a "disposable" item. It's amazing how many ways we can find to destroy wedges. I know it is a little bit of a bitter pill to swallow, but definitely consider ordering them in bulk for the discount. You will amazed how fast you can wreck a 1/2 dozen or more of them. Hard head and TreeStuff.com are great resources that I wholly recommend, but feel free to go with the lowest bidder you can find for these.

Wedges are a consume able like chain. I buy a dozen at a time when I make a madsens order. They have any plastic wedge made. K&H are my favorite. 6", 8", 10", and 12". The 8" are the most used. They do have house brand wedges for around $36/12 .
