I watched this series while I was overseas... Gave me an appreciation for just what goes into replacing the rockers.

Based on what I'm reading, I should be okay with my 05 DMax LLY.. 130k miles on it now. Managed to break off a bad glow plug when I tried to remove it without first running the truck to warm it up.. Chk engine light on for a year, but still starts fine. Looking for the best method to remove the remnants of that glow plug without spending 4k at a dealer and without dumping metal shavings into the engine.

For anyone like me who doesn't have a lot of experience working on these things, do your research BEFORE turning a wrench!!!!

There are a few cummins shorties running around here. 6BT in a short bed half ton. Goes fast if you get traction, drive like they have a ton of bricks sitting on the hood. Fun, but not something I'd want to drive daily.

There are also several F250 Fummins around too. A guy I went to high school with does a lot of swaps. I'm more than half tempted to get a nice six liter with a trashed engine and have him build one for me.

Met a fella up at a G2G that had a 6.0 F250 SD, beautiful truck. He got tired of the engine issues and swapped a 5.9 Cummins in it. Truck now looks and sounds bad-azz and he can drive it without worrying about how much it's going to cost him this week.

My dad's 2003 LB7 DuraMax 2500HD (4x4, crew, long bed) will get into the 20s for MPG on the open highway but only if you keep it at 65, the terrain is gentle, and the fuel is good. Same with the 12v Cummins, they'll do 20+ MPG, but only if you're real nice to 'em.

One of my first bosses had a '92 350 4x4 with a 12v 5.9L and the 5 spd in it. What a truck! Rode like a log wagon but holy shee-ite did it get heavy loads moving. We could stack that trailer with as many round bales as we wanted and it would haul it out of the field like it was hooked to the JD 4450.

Best mileage I ever got was with a 93 5 speed 4x4 cummins with bigger injectors and a generous timing bump. I stayed under 70 the whole tank and got 24 mpg one way to work and then 22 on the way back. I never could get over 21 with any of the others I had.

Well my girlfriend is on her way back with it dealership replaced 3 bad injectors, egr cooler, oil cooler and both head gaskets all on there dime. They said that the diesel tech advised them to do the head gaskets why they were in there so they did I be checking everything over after I have a chance to drive it for a few days but as on this second I could not be more pleased with the way the dealership has taken care of things.

Now have the heads studded and you'll be good to go :)

Glad they did that work for you! Always good when they do the right thing. So many times you hear horror stories and no happy ending.

Here is a happy ending! :)

Great news! Do you know if they studded the heads? With the main trouble spots out of the way it should provide you with some good service! Remember maintenance...maintenance...maintenance.

I am pretty sure it did not get studded but I will check next week. It also helped that my stepfather was with me when I purchased the truck and was and will be completing a deal on two new box trucks from them and have purchased many from them in the past.

It's always good to see a dealer do the right thing. I played hell getting the dealer to replace a broken door handle on my current truck when I bought it. I ended up going to the Chevy dealer next door with a little story about how they said to put it on the used car dealer's account. It worked. Sometimes you need to out swindle the swindler. Glad you found a good dealer.

I think you accurately accounted for much of why you didn't have trouble getting the repair. In the long run of things, it is much better to have you and your Dad on their good side. Nothing wrong with that at all. Their profit is also your profit. Hope you are happy with your truck.

It'll probably ok if you don't get the itch to up the power level. If you start tinker with it I'd stud the heads before upping the power level.

OK. Studding the heads?? Am I correct to assume the OE are bolts? And by studding were putting in a stronger stud that won't str each as much or something and then putting nuts on the top to cinch it all tight?
