No cutting, but I did move enough into the basement to finish off the year. Here's the hole left in the woodshed. And my helpers While I was bringing the wood in, my helpers were making sure the stacks that will fill that hole were squirrel free.
It is not often I work on Sunday and I really did not want to work on Easter Sunday. Wife and I did go for a nice walk in the woods this afternoon. It was a beautiful day and we've been hoping to see 60 degrees soon. It happened today. Even got into the high 60's and sunny until around 4:30 or so. Now cloudy. Rain west of us and it appears we'll get rain tonight.
Rain all day, and some of yesterday too. Nothing productive going on here regarding firewood. Days like this remind me why I cut in winter.
Cut and hauled a cord of Live Oak yesterdayand the price was spot on, FREE. This was only half the wood.
I cut a little firewood, but the visiting lasted longer than I thought today. Which was good. And then my son and I kept hearing this calling. What is that? So we had to go for a little ride and do some work in the JD 210C. We pulled a couple of stumps with it. It will be nice when the ground dries out. I have a lot of dirt work to do.
Got a few bucket fulls for all my efforts. Had to leave 16 feet behind as I parted my old winch rope twice trying to pull the trunk out of the watery hole. It's hollow anyway so I may just leave it. Not too bad for a Sunday afternoon but an awful lot of work for soft maple. But it's another 8 or 9 days of Jan/Feb heat I didn't have yesterday.
Only firewood work I did today was haul a wheelbarrow full around the house to give my daughter in law for the pit. After the usual comments when looking out at my 20 + cords "got enough wood yet"? she asked if I could spare a little so she could have a fire as they moved to another house. I said yep, but I'll probably have to go cut some more to replace that . My son that she is married to is deployed to Kuwait until July, so I was quick to help her.
We hit 70 today ! So far out of whack for end of March ! We usually have snow on the ground and highs in the 30s now. Lil woman asked me today why the heck leaves aren't on. Afraid we won't have much fruit this year. Foliage may even be an issue. Trees are budding and we are 2 months from frost free!!!???
We went to church this morning and then had two couples over for Easter dinner. The only cutting I did was on the Easter ham. I did use an electric knife so that should give me points for cutting
The weather held out and I got the last of my apple rounds split and stacked. Then, I bumped into my neighbor and he was talking about paying someone to drop 2 smallish black birches and a cherry that were hanging over his lane. I offered to "remove" them for free. Now I have about 1/4 - 1/2 cord of new rounds to spit whenever I get the time. Sure will be more fun to split these than those gnarly apple rounds! Best of all, it will be ready to burn next winter. Sorry no pix.
Too early to know about fruit as the fruit trees are not budding much yet. It will all depend upon April weather. Apples here usually blossom early May.
Had some wind the other night. Hackberry came down on a friend's wooden fence. Went over and cleaned the mess up. Would have cleaned it earlier but I was in Vegas
I dropped 10 trees in the section near the house I am clearing, and have about 10 more to go. I have so much wood to cut and split this spring it amazes me.
