Anyone here build one? I just ordered a lightweight 16" barrel for a build and looking for info on buffer, trigger compatibility etc with my current lower with a mag block vs a dedicated lower.
My buddy has a 10" LAR9 and it's a hoot! With a can and sub ammo, even more fun! Trigger, carrier, and buffer are all proprietary. I believe Rock River would have most parts for a conversation except maybe the magwell adapter. I would recommend going with dedicated lower that accepts glock mags. My buddy's takes the old colt style mags and they can be so so on quality/availability. Also, you won't want to change it out once you try it. Carbines are awesome. I went another direction with a CZ Scorpion. Trying to scrape together some funds for 922r compliance and SBR stamp currently.
Check out palmetto state armory for the 9, they have kits... everything you should need. My understanding is every part except the lower is dedicated to 9mm, buffer and all is different. X2 on the Glock mags, easy to find and available in huge capacity.
Eventually I'll have a psa dedicated glock lower. Those sell out in a couple hours and it never seems I'm ready when they are available.
I got the itch to get a 9mm carbine last year, but I really didn't like anything out there. Hopefully CZ figures out a way to bring the Scorpion to the US 922r compliant, I'd really consider that but I don't want to pay the tax on top of the price of the kit to convert it myself. But since there wasn't anything on the market I really liked I ended up buying a Hi Point 995TS for a whopping $240. You may laugh, but it's been dead reliable and is a hoot to shoot! My only complaint is that the only reliable magazines available are only 10 rounds. I'm actually considering finding one in .45 ACP since I can hunt deer in Ohio with rifles in that caliber now.
The hammer is different, I'm guessing no go. If you can wait, CZ is supposedly going to offer the Evo in compliant form from the factory. Downside is that it'll have a 16" bbl. I have shot the Hipoint before. Nothing fancy, but seems to work well. I do like the Keltecs better though. Around $400, but can get a version that accepts glock mags and I like the way it folds up. Can be stowed in a backpack no problem.
Good to know. I know their website claims the 805 Bren Carbine is supposed to make it here, which I'm hoping to scrape the funds together for didn't know the Scorpion Carbine would too! I checked out the Keltec and liked them as well but at the time I couldn't find any in stock and used ones were listing for $500. And then that Hi Point popped up on Armslist and I happened to have $250 in my pocket that day. Some people have CAD. I have GAD.
Keltec stuff always commands a premium for some reason? I have wanted a PMR30 for a while now, but can't bring myself to pay more than MSRP for one. I'm in a 12 step program for GAD. Sober since December!
It's because their manufacturing can't keep up with demand. I've been wanting a CMR, but those have been going for well over MSRP as well.
Learned a few things today. Those psa 9mm glock compatible guns don't look so good now imo. No last round bolt hold open, and not compatible with my geisselle trigger because the bcg isn't ramped. So....I will be piecing this together. So far: Psa upper Kaw valley precision pencil profile 16" barrel Ramped 9mm bcg (allows 223 and 9mm to utilize same hammer) Bottom mount mag block (this allows last round bolt hold open and easier install) instead of cheaper top mount ones) Colt style 32 round mags Free float rail One piece or 2 at a time, and should be done sooner than later. Sold off my hi point 995 rifle and a bucket of 22lr today as a Kickstarter fund for the build.
Everyone I've ever talked to that's sold their 995 said they later regretted it!!! That does stink about the glock mags. Post some pics of the build!
Nice to know on the BCG. I just let my buddy know and he's already got one on order. He's a fan of Geissele to say the least and this will also allow him to use his SBRed lower.
I have always wondered why more manufacturers don't make a 9mm carbine. Glock, S&W, Springfield, and so on. Make them compatible with their service pistol mags. I know I'd buy one.
More seem to be showing up on the market from the European and some of the smaller American companies, maybe some of the larger ones will follow soon. I'd probably buy a couple if they were priced right! I don't feel safe shooting 5.56 at my house because I know they'd destroy my backstop quickly. But I have no problem with pistol calibers.
