I thought the same thing. They look way too fancy for my house.

I think they are really cool ! I was in Europe back in 1986 and saw these in several places, i think I even have some pictures somewhere. It is my understanding they are a thermal mass type stove, they light a very hot fire in the morning and it puts off heat all day after the fire goes out. I would love to have one, brings back a lot of memories.

I like to check out John Ackerly's page on Facebook as he has some very interesting articles. Alliance for Green Heat. For example, here is one: Alliance for Green Heat

All they need is a built in chocolate fountain, and a weenie roller.

The cook stoves are pretty freaking cool though.

Anyone else notice that very few of them have a visible flue? [IMG] Are they just for decoration?

Saw that but figured most were close to wall and figured the flue was hidden there. But then again I wasn't sure if some were even stoves.

I did like the cook stoves Horkn

XXL is right. Over there most all stoves are built in very close to walls; some right up tight to the walls and built so they don't need the short flue; just the chimney.

It helps when your walls are cement block or brick. Even the floors are poured concrete so no clearances to be concerned with.

I wish I could retrofit something like that into my fireplace and clad it in soapstone instead of the tile. It already has a lot if mass in the brick and it is built out into the rooms with the front and sides, not just the face of it.

At the first Woodstock gtg they had a soapstone masonry heater set up. It was pretty impressive.
