After the last few weeks we had in the NY metro one would think that 32 isnt that cold, but in actuality it does feel cold. We went from 67 in late December to -10 in early January to 32 in mid January. I got home today after having oral surgery and the house felt really cold. Im sure being all doped up from the gas and pain meds didnt help matters much. I lit the fire at 4 and the stove room and tv room next to it feels really nice right now. I filled it up again with Oak, Locust and Cherry. A few oak and maple floor scraps in between. Those no longer show in the pic as they went up real fast. Stay warm friends and keep her going these days seem to be deceptive but when nightfalls the temps go lower. Be Save Franklin
Crud, i posted in the wrong forum. Ooops. Like i said on my original post, Oral surgery. LOL> mea culpa.
Most of us still chuck in a few splits here and there. I haven't had to lately. The beast has done nicely even down to -20's. I'd sure like to see some Locust pellets, I bet they would give the Douglas fir a good run. Not sure on the ash content, But I bet they would be hot!
Cold is returning....going to be down near 0* here Tues night......teens and low 20's at night the rest of the week.
We,re headed for the minus 20's this week. Stoked up both stoves last night. Firing up on 3 yo Red Oak and Beech.
Looks like I need to shut the stove off today (going to be around 40* in early afternoon), and give her a quick cleaning. Heading over to Lowes & HD to see what they have in stock.....like to try 5-10 bags of those Heat Resource oak pellets if they have them.
Well, the HD near me had about 12 tons of the HR, so I grabbed 10 bags to test. Gonna give them a try during this cold spell we're about to get. Love the 100% Oak!! Hope they live up to my expectations. Posted the rest of the pics & info over in the Pellet Bag forum. Pic to prove it happened:
Pete I saw those at the HD in Fishkill and almost picked up a few bags but didnt. How are those Timber Heat?
The TH have done very well for me during the "regular" winter temps. I only had to put some of the "real good stuff " (aka Somersets or Ligs) in during the "polar vortex" last time. I'm trying the Heat Resource as we speak....can't comment on whether or not they're better yet, but will be switching to the Sets tonight.
Pete, Im running the Stove Chows I got a few years ago at the HD. Those are really good pellets, the new stove chows havent been the same. I also got the woodchuck running tonight too.
I moved the thread to the EPA stove room, but there is a redirect that will stay here in the Pellet room for 24 hrs. Nice pics Kat.. Love the 30-NC! ! Beast of a Stove!!
Have to make your own. CSS some locust like normal firewood, after a couple years of seasoning , just cut the splits into real small pieces
