Beech is usually pretty straight grained, but every few trees around me the grain is spiralling. Thouse rounds are a bit tougher to split.

This one had a wee bit of twist to it. Also just a bit of rot mostly towards branch end of the log. Plenty of good wood left though.

This is what I been doing this week, sawed up some logs logs, then split and stacked them. Then a visitor came out of the woods, I wonder what we're having for supper............no I didn't. She eventually went home, uncooked. :whistle:

Smart chicken hunting bugs out of the woodpile. I have debated getting some hens just for bug duty.

I need to get stacking. 2 things holding me up: 1 - I hate stacking and 2 - I am having a hard time deciding where exactly I am going to place them as I don't typically keep stacks at this "landing". (Plenty of sun over here, but mushy, solid ground there but too much shade, solid ground and sun there but a pita on the mower, etc) :hair:

Got some wood out today. Nice big piece of red oak and a couple logs of honey locust.

Some of the trails were used with horses for logging back in the 50s. A buddy of mines grandfather actually worked with a two horse team in these woods.

That's my prototype geothermal vapor exchanger cooler.

Really they are just culverts and take up less space standing up.

Beautiful country, which county are you in?, those hills look like quite a challenge to get wood out of, I have it somewhat similar here, thankfully there's a well graded and not so steep grade to get back up out of the woods right near my backyard, otherwise my firewood gathering would be much more challenging.......:tree:

Muskingum. It would be a nightmare without the trails. There is quite an extensive network. They allow access and are nice for buggy rides, but demand a lot of grooming and keeping them clear is never ending. I should have stayed off them yesterday due to squishyness. Had my eye on that wood since last fall though and the splitter is hungry!

Very impressive except for the date stamp on the pictures. According to that, those are pictures from what will be tomorrow!
So nice to have some warm temps. I'm told the first week of April is going to be cooler because of some vortex.

You are entering another dimension, where time and space are no longer under your control. Do not try to adjust the picture, we control your set.

Meant to post this pic earlier. Was surprised to find some really beautiful grain in the beech I split Sunday.
