Here's a little tidbit......bout time someone did this, it just makes sense.

"The outside air adapter designed for the Absolute Steel Hybrid is unique in the wood stove industry for two reasons: 1.) ALL of the air that goes into the stove (primary, secondary, and catalyst air) has to go through this one opening, and 2.) It is virtually leakproof. If you want a dedicated air supply for your stove, the outside air adapter is the perfect solution. Even better, the outside air adapter is built in. If you need it later, it’s already there."

Not unique at all. Both the BK and my old hearthstone had the same qualities. Weird they would say that.

    That's interesting, I asked about this very thing when I was considering an IS, here's the response;

"There is a tertiary catalytic combustor air feed that won't be fed by the outside air, as well as a small amount of "feeder" air that is used to help prevent backpuffing and smoldering conditions (this is used on all of our wood stoves and is mandated by the EPA)."

It seems that they learned some things from the IS and made some improvements in the design of the new AS. Presumably one could rig a way to get outside air to the cat on an IS if you have a reason to, and the small hole under the door shouldn't flow enough to worry about.

I wasn't aware of that HB. My bad (and, evidently, Woodstock's).
I'd amend my original post, but I can't.
Wasn't aware the Princess had this as it's not mentioned in their literature (that I've seen). Not something I was looking for when I was researching, though.

I think it's pretty silly when a manufacturer doesn't get all air from the oak. I know that the nc30 falls under that description, why bother hooking it up?

The 13NC is set up different from the 30NC, in that it draws all its air from the OAK manifold................primary, secondary and tertiary(dog house). Only thing being is that the OAK manifold is not air tight on the 13. There are gaps where they fit it to the stove around the air inlet.............and it's just tack welded in place. I fixed that with some high temp silicone in the gaps. It's easy to see with a bright light under the stove where the gaps are. Been running my 13 like this for 2 years now.

I asked Englander about tying the secondary intake to the OAK- got a non- committal answer, neither ya or nay. It would take a larger diameter feed than just the current connection. Another area to look at , never mentioned in any of the chevy /ford/ dodge fights I have read, is like a flue - bends, twists, length of run all should be considered in the volume of air needing to be supplied. Look at any unit that exhausts out the side wall - specs for dia vs length of run. My Oak (NC30) which is about a 15 ft run + bumps and wiggles and it is a corrugated wall, by all rights should be steping up to a 6" dia. at the intake end in order to deliver the proper volume - just a theory roughly based based on reading information for air flow when setting up a dust collector system. When the 30 is cranking and the fan isn't on I can hear air sucking in the oak- sounds that way to me anyway.

If you have the primary turned way down, it's the 2ndary intake.
I hear similar, even over the fan noise, if I'm close to the stove.

I like your take on this Chris, even tho the smoke dragon we heat with wouldn't know what to do with an OAK- other than to think we were talking about firewood.

Sounds like you need to upgrade Eric! With all the chatter about the Englander NC-30 going for rock bottom prices I would be giving this some very hard thought! This would be a great low cost stove with many satisfied Englander NC-30 wood burners here at the forum..

Also, right now Woodstock has great introductory pricing on their newest hybrid stove and is the cleanest burning stove around.. Remember less smoke means less word burned! Woodstock is impressive how they design, build and back their stoves.. If you ever have the chance visit them and you too will be impressed! For a small stove manufacturer they have big ideas plus really nice people and why I am a big fan of the company!

Either way they're both good choices and there are so many other great stove makers to choose from as well..

You KNOW you want to do this lol!

    Yes!

    Yes again!
Both true statements, Ray- the inevitable variable is always........$
Other things lined up to dip into the extra cash, so it'll be a while before I can jump into either the 30
(great price tho, Man!) or a WS beauty.
    S'ok tho- we'll get by.
