    That's why I'm going with a light shade, these decks lead to a pool so we do have lots of bare feet running around. We usually place throw rugs down to walk on when it gets really hot and sunny. Great information everyone !!!

    As I remember, the darker the stain/sealer, the more UV protection it has. Makes sense.
    But I see the want for a cooler surface.

    Looks great once weathered, a good penetrating sealer without color will leave an awesome color and preserve it well. Cedar doesnt dry and splinter, stays smooth. I think redwood has that same property but around here the cost is far more than cedar.

    We used Penofin at our previous home on the decks, it was still decent when we sold the home 16 years later despite us neglecting to recoat. It has an odor though.
