I hope you post follow ups to this. These are the most economical ways to heat and cool all in the same unit.

X2 - Please post your thoughts on this unit (heat and cool), we have been thinking of installing a couple for a few years.

I can't speak for Jason845 and his installation, but some new mini-splits are amazing even in low temps. There is an article on them in this month's Fine Homebuilding (excellent trade journal) that notes that the Mitsubishi Hyperheat model delivers 100% of rated output down to 5 degrees F, 82% at -4F, and 62% at -13F. Excellent for all but the coldest parts of the US. We are thinking of putting one in our upstairs for the AC, as the central system originally installed by previous owners doesn't quite cut it. Much more efficient than larger heat pumps, which begin to lose efficiency when temps start to drop below 40.

This is the unit I had installed. (Mitsubishi Hyper heat).

We wanted to replace our window ac units with with this but after doing research, I found they hear just as well as they cool. The price was a little steep ~$3500 but it seems like it will pay for itself rather quickly in energy savings.

First impressions are that the unit doesn't really look all that bad in the room. There are a ton of little features on the remote as far as which way the air gets directed, fan speed and so on. It is very quiet when heating compared to the pellet stove and even the hot air oil furnace. I have only ran it one night, it was down to about 25 last night and it kept the room right at 68 where I had it set.

If you are really interested in the operation of the inverter I'd recommend Google search because I have no freaking clue how it works.

Time will tell about cost savings and so on, but so far so good, I'll update you guys throughout.

Who are you trying to kid? Your short term memory is down to 3 bytes so beer doesn't even fit.

Two lovely days now of 60 F plus weather and managed to get up on the roof yesterday and fix a bit of damage from the last two wind storms.

Found 4 tabs that had blown off that were laying on the ground.

Some black sticky goop and all is well.

Another fairly nice day today, then more rain.
