today. Didn't have the pic machine with me, but it was a nice day, so I told myself yesterday that I was gonna' get outside today and split some wood. So, I did. I can take a couple pics tomorrow. A full trailer is 1/3 cord, and I did about 1/2 that. I was VERY surprised that the splitter started right up after just a couple pulls (I checked the oil and fuel first).
My hydro fluid gets so molasses-ie in the cold weather, I've been known to remove the recoil starter housing and chuck up a 3/4" socket to the corded drill and let fly! Thankfully, the max rpm's of the drill is about matched to the idle rpm's of the splittah engine. Haven't been tossed/ spun around yet!
I've found that they start better iff'n you hold your tongue outa the side of the mouth just so while pulling the cord...... And also a brand new clean spark plug rightly gapped.
I found curse words help when starting my gas engines. The engines just laugh at me if i do the tongue thing.
A little side note......on first pull, a mouse came scurrying out from under the engine cover. There was some burning smell for a while too. Hmmm. Baked mouse.....anyone?
My new splitter has electric start! Starting it in freezing weather is a breeze! It does however feel odd to me starting a log splitter with a key.
papadave I and many others can't wait to see the pics and more importantly, the positioning of the splitter...
Had to take tractor apart a couple different times to get all the crap out mice stuffed up in there , motor was gettin to hot , one time that stuff lit up in flames
Maybe it feels odd but if I surely wish all my machines had electric start. Pulling those ropes gets old as the body ages.
It's amazing, and sad, that pulling a little rope no more than 2' - 3' for a dozen or so times can wear me out so quick. I have a magnetic heater I place on the hydro tank and filter that sure helps when it's really cold. I hope that smoldering mouse didn't run under your wood pile papadave.
Uh, uh, um, well, it's not my fault.......it's horizontal. The mouse startled me so bad I didn't think to go vertical......or something. I wasn't out there more than about 1/2 hour......back started binding up on me. That's when I quit, so I could still walk back to the house.
Please don't apologize sir, for doing things the right way!!!! Keep doing it right and that back will loosen up and the upper body strength you will gain will soon begin to compensate you greatly---Nice work
Lifting logs ALL THE WAY up to the shplittah will do that to yer back..... Do I need to send my wife to help? She splits vertically, and loves it
Not only are our stove rooms the same color, but we cover our splitters the same way- firewood hold downs and all I'm gonna have to build a shed for my splitter-thanks papadave!
