Sounds a little chilly!:bug: Or you were looking for an excuse to start a fire....

Hit a beautiful 68 degrees today! Got the snowmobile back in the garage and the motorcycle out and took it for a quick ride. It will go back away for a bit as rain and 40s for highs and lows around freezing are coming for awhile, at least for this coming week. Will have a few small overnight fires as I just cant stand having the furnace run.:hair: Especially with plenty of wood laying around. Gonna be hard pressed to burn up the 1/4 cord thats still in the house.

The wife left the windows open for a while into the night as the temps during the days have been in the 60's, record highs for us. Wed. hit 75 deg., people are going to the beach. It's crazy in New England, golfing in March. We don't mind that the nights cool off, if the days are warm, and the sun is back as well. The long dark is over, the long days are approaching!:drunk::grizz:

Yes and for those of us who live in snow country we will soon be able to start processing again. Man I miss running the chainsaw!:axe::tree::saw:

We are on year two of short winters. Normally Im ice fishing for kokanee salmon into April but this year I stopped at least a week before the end of February. I was hoping for another trip on the ice with my son for pike but that aint happenin. Its 36f outside right now and real windy with graupel making things a bit white. Ive got the stove full of larch tonight but did let the stove go out until we got home today around 5 pm. We should have many feet of snow as well but my yard is losing it fast.

Seeing any signs of things greening up? Watching the Vancouver BC news I see the cherry blossoms have been out for a bit. I was hiking through the snow in the bush with the dog today and kept an eye out for bear sign as I had heard the grizzlies and blacks are awake now. Unreal.

Called it quits for the year, but it's supposed to drop from 60 to 30 today so maybe haul in a bundle of wood and have a 24-36 hour burn starting this afternoon.
Some chillier nights coming up towards the end of the week too.

53 deg. outside right now, unheard of temps for mid March night temps. I just took advantage of the stove being down to replace a bad door gasket.

49° outside this morning, with the house still at 73° from an overnight warmer upper fire. Kid's rooms are in the basement and were only 64°, "It's cold down here dad!", was the consesus of the 2 that sleep down there. So a small white elm load did the trick. They even slept in this morning, even with daylight savings.

Basement is holding around 61° so with the OAT overnight of only 40°, no fire again today.

OWB is chugging along providing all the hot water and heat needed!

Small kindling fire with one chunk of beech and prior loads coal remnants kept it decent all nite.
Chilly in the great room so some kindling and coal for today.
Got a used crate for a dog box Ive been looking for from our familys pallet/recycling shop the other day and it was full of broken pallet deck boards. PERFECT. Great timing. Kindling and coal is about all that's needed with day temps hitting 45+ and some solar gain.

No fire since Fri. night.....thought about it a little bit ago when I got up from a Sunday afternoon nap, but I doubt I'll mess with it until later in the week when the colder stuff returns. 56º outside right now and it's been raining all day but has stopped now. Might go change the oil in the splitter or just have another coffee and get some burgers ready for the grill.......decisions, decisions ;)

We havent gotten above 37f today and have light snowfall (still bloody warm for these parts). Its amazing at this kind of temperature the super 27 is able to heat this 2600 sq ft house easily even with several windows open. The fire has been going all day but just at a crawl. Lodgepole pine was on order through the day and now ive got a piece of doug fir and a stubby but fat larch burning away.
