I set up at a few art/craft shows. I try to stick to the handmade goods shows and I've met a lot of talented folks over the years. All repurposed/salvaged woodworking with a bit of forge work here and there. Handled trays: Incense storage boxes with copper work. I really like the jagged edge. The pieces I make are anything but perfect. Blacksmithing. That is barn board right here. I always thought this had a "Norwegian" look to it for some reason. This was a Secret Santa gift to a member here one year. Repurposed furniture. Here is my booth. Just an easy-up with a few tables and handmade sign. I get a few commissions when they take business cards. I really like meeting people and talking with other artists at the shows. The pooch was from the booth next door. I have racks of salvaged wood, broken furniture, scrap metal, old hardware, just a bunch of stuff. If I could make serious money doing this, I'd make a go of this in a heartbeat. Right now it feeds the hobby.
Yup I'm a fellow dreamer of a repurposed n rustic business and a husband of a woman who says I'm a hoarder.
Wuz playin again. Took a fancy new board an wrecked it to look like an old one. Got moved to a different place at my job and didn't have a place to hang my coat n hat so I made one. Square nails and electric fence porcelain insulators for hooks.
Jon and greenstick, I think this was built 1950-1980. Its now demolished (for new septic system last summer) but still here and many of the boards intact. Suppose this could be used by others to come get for free after the snow drift over it melts? The plan is for a bonfire this spring but I'd like to pass it on if possible. Thanks!
Sure, any type of weathered wood has potential. Free is great or maybe barter it off in exchange for finished goods.
Around here people tend to old barn wood is pure gold or something. I see it on Craig's List all the time for $2 a linear foot. I don't really need more since I have demolished a couple of sheds already and salvaged most of the lumber. I figure I'll build something with it, perhaps a nice shed to store firewood to start. (4 feet deep by up to 40 feet in length by 7 to 8 feet in height with a tin roof with the addition of a one foot overhang on all sides leaving the front and rear open)
Wish I were closer, I wood take that ol barnwood in a jiffy. Whenever I scrounge any amount of barn wood I always make the person a piece from their wood just to say thanks.
I have only had the coat rack up for 24 hours and already have two people putting orders in for racks.
That's great! Get your name and work out there and the word will spread. Good luck! Maybe time for some business cards?
The dungeon that my new position at work moved me to is a cement cube with a door that leads me into another concrete casket with a door that leads to a room with one small window. In the event of a nuclear strike I will be fine but I get a little cagey in there. I decided to play head games with myself and pretend we have windows in the cement sarcophagus. Made some frames from barn siding and mounted pictures of nice outside days. We'll see if it works.
Greenstick what a great idea. You could have different pictures for different seasons as well. did you make the backing removable to changing out pictures?
