Hauled out just a few logs today. About time to start another log pile as this is high enough when you are stacking it all by hand. Notice the lack of snow. Just a couple days ago there was around a foot of snow here. By tomorrow it should be all gone or very close to all of it.
Lots of rain in the forecast so won't be doing much for a few days. Tis okay as it will allow me the time to go to the sugar bush.
looks great! but where is your mud? tiny bit on tires no ruts around log pile.. none on dray? what's the secret.. my driveway with a foot of stone is more sloppy then that! looks to be almost 2 cord when finished
I use my quad so much for firewood hauling. Best investment ever. Great work Dennis! Did it get down to freezing overnight to keep the mud away? I got a lot more mud on my quad and there was still snow when I was hauling on Sunday am.
Denis, hope you don't mind me asking. How easy, (comfort v.s. pain) is it for you to get on and off that 4 wheeler? Any hints what to avoid when looking for one?
That's a very relevant question. Even a relatively young (to you two) guy can appreciate the honesty of that inquiry.
For some older guys, they appreciate the side by sides, UTV , due to not having to swing your leg over the seat. Bombardier made a 500cc traxter that was a blend of the step through of a tractor, but ATV form. I've been thinking that my father might really appreciate one versus having to swing his whole leg over the polaris sportsman. The XL version of the traxter had a nice mini bed that us hoarders would use well.
I got Pop a treker side by side a couple of years ago, and "steal" it all the time for cutting and hauling. Once he got used to it, he really has enjoyed it, too. Had to demonstrate that it was neigh unto impossible to get it stuck for him to feel comfortable with it.
Now don't go putting up 5 years of firewood before the GTG this spring! Ya gotta save some for me! Love the log pile. Nice work!
No secret. Just that we live on yellow sand so do not get much mud except in very low spots. I stayed on high ground for all of this pile. I do have a little mud at the end of our driveway but that usually dries up fast. I need to haul in a little more sand there. We've been talking about a tractor so I'm waiting in case we get one there will be a good use for a front end loader.
We haven't been below freezing now since Sunday night when it got down to 9. No freezing in the 10 day forecast either. Whoops. Just checked that and they now have 30 predicted for tomorrow night. Then another long spell with no freezing. Being on high ground and having all yellow sand helps keep the mud away.
When I am hurting real bad I do not straddle the saddle but sit sideways like I do when backing up. Also different atv's will ride much different. Two I did not like were Suzuki and Honda. I really wanted to try a Honda but they are one of the stiffest suspension ones on the market so I stuck with Yamaha. This is our third one over the years and the reason I got this last one is it has independent suspension which really does make the ride much smoother. Another thing is that they all seem to sit different and you really need to ride it before buying it. That Suzuki is one of the first ones we looked at when we initially bought our first atv. After 100 yards I hated it because it really made me hurt. Polaris is one I almost bought too and we may buy one if we get another as they are good and ride good plus they are quieter. But so far all our atv's have been Yamaha and they have all been mostly trouble free. I also would highly recommend power steering. At first I scoffed at the idea but I back up the trailer a lot and do that one-handed so power steering is a big help. Also great when having the snow blade on. I also happen to really like heated handlebar grips and a windshield for winter riding. I usually take that off in April and put it back on in October. Hope this helps.
A neighbor of ours had one of those and loved it because he has a problem swinging a leg over the saddle (really bad hip). Now he has a UTV and loves that basically for the same reason.
Worry not Shawn. We'll have plenty. But I thought perhaps some might like to just buck up some wood so have been trying to get a bunch of the stuff that is already down. I have a few dandies for you!
