Well HoneyFuzz I need to thank you, at least a little bit, for my ornery wife. After seeing pics of that fine cs400 you got from Shawn Curry I had to scratch my Echo itch. My saw stable just hadn't been the same since I sold the cs500 a couple months ago. So when I saw a smoking deal on Fleabay, I jumped all over it! My wife says but you already have 3 saws! She doesn't get it. She didn't think it was funny when I pointed out she had more than 3 pairs of shoes. All joking aside I bet you all would like some pics: Brandy new in the box! Rim sprocket. Shhhh I won't tell my wife I used our bathroom scale to weigh a saw if you all won't! 490 weighs 13.6 ready to cut wearing a 20" B&C. Stihl ms241 16" B&C ready to cut. A pound lighter on my highly accurate bathroom scale. There are some small differences between this saw and the cs500 I had. But at over 200 less for a pretty similar saw, I'm pretty pleased. More to come in the days and weeks as I mess with the cs490.
I will be interested in hearing how you like it. I have handled one at a dealers and they are nice and light. I have never run one though.
Its all in good fun. She's not really mad at me. I think... I liked my cs500 a lot! I don't see this a being that much different. It's no speed demon but a high quality saw. It's nearly as light as the ms241. If I like it enough the 241 may be looking for a new home.
Congrats buddy !!! I have wanted to try that saw myself...I'll be very curious to hear how it performs ! And hey...your welcome lol !
When I joined the tree crew as a student employee at good old fruit jar tech all those years ago, an 024 was our main saw. We cut a metric poop ton of wood with that old thing. I'd still like to have a medium / light weight saw for "in between" cutting. My MIL's gf has a MS 250 race saw that makes me salivate. ... So many saws, so little $$$$
I can't wait. Please do lots of videos. I will watch them all 10 times and give you thumbs up and comments.
Haha! I can try and take some video. I'll warn you I'm about as pro at taking phone videos as I am at saw polishing. Not sure when I will get to this project because of syrup season. Depends on mother nature. Soon I hope.
