Some Green Supreme locally at 179.00 a ton. I purchased a few bags to try before buying. When I got them home I noticed on the bag that they have 10% soy oil added as a binder Anyone ever seen this ??? I figure if they are to chitty to use I can always add some colorant and wow the grands by use them in the fire pit
My stove liked the ones from the Jaffrey mill but not the mills in NY and that's all we've been seeing around here these past few years, unfortunately.
My "concern" (if I have one) is with the soy binder. That is new to me. The GS pellets will not be an issue for my stove. At worst I would need to contract the cleaning schedule which is no biggie with a Serenity.
Are you sure it says 10% I just checked out the AWF's hardwood label and it says less than 1% veg oil If your stove likes them and gives you heat ,@ a $179 / ton
I am one of the few that doesn't mind these pellets. I rate them about the same as MWP. For $179 I would buy them all day long.
I've never burned any Trader so I can't say one way or the other , knowing my stoves , they would eat them no problem , and @ $ 3 . 60 / bag You got some testers you tell us how they burn if they work sounds like an awesome score for you Like IHP said he buy them all day long
I toured the Jaffrey plant last summer and in response to a question about any additives, he said nothing was added and the heat generated from the die press is what binds pellets there. He did later say the pellets from the New York plants they own are "different" in some respects.
X2 Saw a mini mill owner do the same with his product. Lubes the dye and helps keep it(fiber) from stickin/cloggin in the dye's. Veggie oil does add some extra BTU's from what I was told. I have heard of far worser stuff being added by some of the mills. I wouldn't worry much about a lil veggie oil.
Sorry --- It is .10 --My finger missed the decimal and I did not proof read It is labeled as an additive and I assumed (I know better than to do that) as a binder. It could well be contamination from lubrication. I have never seen anything like that on a pellet label, but rarely look past the ash content anyway. I have a bag in the stove tonite but it is pretty warm out and the stove is just gurgling. I did notice an almost immediate browning of the glass similar to what I have seen with lower grade pellets I have used (I guess what we call shoulders). Will likely buy a couple ton because the price is hard to beat.
One other mill I heard uses styrafoam in there mix. Then you have mills like MWP that only use steam and the natural lignin in the fiber.
