    Here, I'll try being the warm-up band while we patiently wait... If this works (my first video here), it is a video of the Ideal Steel drilling a hole into the end-grain of a piece of Ash using the secondaries inlet by the door...

    The stone drilled like chalk with a DeWalt bit and cordless. The stainless heat shield was a little tougher. After using moderate pressure while bracing on the stove to prevent the bit from contacting the cat once it penetrated the shield, I removed the shield and drilled the scored mark on a piece of upright firewood. I then cut the probe to length, 1/2" from the face of the cat. I also installed a new style stainless cat. The first pick is a mock up with the old cat. image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg I removed the doughnut magnet from the probe shaft to get a more flush fit.
