I vote on the elections. We had a caucus instead of a primary. You couldn't get near the place. I can't walk but a short distance and can't stand more than 5 min. No way I could do that. In general elections, I can get an absentee ballot and vote.
We had far too few areas to access for the caucus. Some had to drive long distances. No need of that.

We have a second. All in favor say Aye. :D

Yep. I vote. Although I often wonder how much it matters. Sometimes it seems that the media does the choosing and we're expected to bow to their infinite wisdom.

I can't say "Aye" because I think I'm already involved in this.:)

As for the media, don't pay much attention to them. They tend to skew things to their side, whichever way of thinking it is. They also tend to sensationalize the most trivial of things and downplay or not cover more serious events.

If everyone went out and voted, I think things would be much different. The thought of their vote not counting may not singularly, but if the masses get out and vote, especially those who don't usually, it may be a horse of a different color. Your best bet, get out and vote, and hope that other 40 to 60% who don't usually vote, decides enough is enough and gets out and votes as well. This country may well have had a different outcome if better than 80% of eligible voters actually voted.

    Just sayin!

I think I should be Emperor of the Planet! I know this will probably not be popular but I don't care! A basic understanding of issues and candidates should be required in order to be allowed to vote. Example.... Local vote recently for a new school and how to fund it. 2 items needed to be voted on because of legality. #1 do you want to allow the district to accept more debt to fund the building of a new school. #2 do you want the district to build a new school. Vote tally should be 1 for 1 because if we don't have the loan we cannot build the school and why do we need a loan to build a school if you don't want the school? Of course not the numbers could never match. If you can't understand that they are inseparable issues you are not capable of having the ability to vote to raise everyone in the district's taxes point blank. Too often people vote to vote and just fill in a box with no knowledge of what or who their vote is supporting.

Just as long as they vote for my candidate, else they're a bunch of maroons and the country's probably gonna go down the tubes! ;)

I've just become so disgusted by the whole thing. I used to spend a lot of time and emotional energy on it, but I don't waste one minute on it anymore (well, perhaps now and then..) I'm just along for the crazy ride. :)

Also please if you are voting on a multi issued ballot and an issue you have no information about is on there leave it blank. This does not invalidate your ballot or make you a bad person. In fact I would respect you more for stepping back and saying I do not want to negate somebody's well informed vote by blindly checking a box.

Indiana primary is in May after the candidates are usually a done deal so I don't bother with it.

Wow this is an awesome thread! Love hearing everyone's input! I live in California and tend to lean more to the right, since I have been old enough to vote (only 10 years) my votes have never made a difference, at least for president but that doesn't stop me, I still believe in America and believe the system can still work, we just need to get more people to vote. And by saying ' my vote doesn't count, so I'm not going to vote.' Only contributes to the problem.

Since this isn't related to the current cycle I'm hoping it doesn't "cross the line"

Back in '08 and again in '12 I did local campaign work for Ron Paul. Most folks I talked to said; "I like his message but he is not electable." My standard response was: "If everyone that said he isn't electable would actually get out there and vote for him he would be electable." But all people heard was the media flapping their jaws about how it wasn't possible. Sound bites sell unfortunately.

Well, I'll join you then. I broke my pattern and voted for Ron Paul. Would do the same again. On to our regularly scheduled non-political discussion.

I'll delete it if any mod wants me to.

I don't understand why a state or states would opt for a Caucus instead of regular Primary Elections for a presidential race. That leaves so many people out in the cold like the elderly and disabled or those who live too far away. The same applies to those who work for a living and their schedule may not allow for them to take the time off to attend. At least with an actual vote, some would be able to vote via absentee ballot. And most would be able to vote at local polling places when it was convenient for them to do so.

In a caucus it's more a mob that determines who gets to run in the presidential election. If those who are running aren't very popular and only a couple of hundred show, then it is only those couple of hundred that actually determined who was nominated rather than the entire state. I just don't see how a caucus could be beneficial to the state or it's people.

savemoney I can empathize with your situation more than you know. Personally, I could never handle a Caucus, and do have difficulty with just going to the polls to vote. Too little movement in too much time which is why I try to go when the lines are shortest. It's not like I live in a heavily populated area. The population of the nearest town is about 400 with one polling place. I live 5 miles southeast of there.
