Picked up a 91 Austroflamm insert a while back and listed it on Craig's list

Guy calls and he and his wife show up wanting to buy.

She looks at it and comments, "Its going to stick out of the fireplace" turned and walked away ????????????:picard::picard:

I worked at an army surplus store back in the day. Gal calls and asks if we sell used green canvas army tents. I say yes then she asks what colors they come in.

I think the problem is that his wife is NEVER going to want to buy... Even you can't fix what ails that fella, Snowy.

Having been in business and dealing with the public for years, nothing much surprises me.

Best one I ever had though:
Back when I was dump trucking, I used to sell sandy loam river bottom soil during the summer months.

This was lovely rich soil right from the flood plain that had been screened and was free of rock and debris.

I deliver a truck and trailer load to a private customer in an upscale neighborhood for their new front yard.

I dump the stuff just inside the curb line and all is well.

The customer hired a landscaper to move the stuff and spread it all out over the area.

The landscaper does his job, seeds it, plants shrubs and other trees.

We get a summer rain that lasted a day or so.

I get a call from the customer, who is irate as H#LL and hopping mad.

" This expensive dirt you sold us has turned to mud"
"We paid for nice dry sandy loam"

    OMG
I explained (tried to) that when it rains dirt gets wet.

This azz wanted his $$$ back because his yard had turned to mud.

    Ahhhh, did not happen.

WHERE DO THESE IDIOTS COME FROM ????

Anyway, the insert is still here and I updated the ad on Craig's list.

Next I will get some clown the does not understand that you have to buy pellets to have the pellet stove put out heat.

That ain't the half of it.

Had a gal once that wanted a full load of rock delivered to her back yard.

    On a real steep slope
Only way into the yard is a 3 foot wide winding path that had several small concrete steps that led past the house down the hill.

    Hmmmm

Truck is 8 feet wide :picard:

This sort of stuff really is sad.

The fact that people can be so stoooooooopid.

    Ignorance is repairable, but stupidity should be painful ! ! ! ! ! o_O

Well this could be that some folks "think" with different sides of their brain. They are just physiologically incapable of visualizing what the rest of us consider common sense. You might be surprise how many doctors can't. Once, I had drawn a floor plan, elevation and a 3d perspective of a cabinet one wanted. I knew she wasn't seeing the size of the cabinet she wanted. I even made a card board mock up for her, still insisted she wanted what she wanted. Delivered the 12k piece and installed it. She went nuts.....it's too big! All the plans, elevations, perspectives and even the card board used were signed before I built it. Just because you can afford to build a 2 1/2 million dollar house doesn't mean you should decorate it.

We all know that you only have to fill the stove with pellets once at the beginning of the season. One load lasts all winter, don't you know...

And pellet stoves need electricity as well. (Well, almost all do).

    I'll add a customer story...

A few years back before we sold the business we put in a new composite deck for a couple. Well, actually we rebuilt the deathtrap they already had there, but that's beside the point. They insisted on a light color as they wanted to walk out with bare feet in the summer and not get burned. Only problem was that their yard was a blasted mud pit in several areas, and they had two little dogs that they let in and out via the deck.

Sure enough, after the first rain they called mad as wet hens about how their new deck was now all muddy. Somehow we were supposed to have foreseen the dog problem and warned them that dogs track mud, and mud looks bad on a light colored deck, and the garden hose alone wouldn't remove the clay-based mud completely, so this was all our fault. I remember standing on the deck shivering as we tried to make them happy by cleaning it, and warning them that they really needed this stuff called grass to cover the mud, and that dogs have this tendency to track mud so maybe a different ingress / egress route was in order. We ultimately just had to shake our heads and let them go as customers, as there was no solution short of levitation. I could write about 1,000 stories like this. It's what ultimately led me to do only business to business work in another field. No more consumers, thank you.

I deal with the public ALL day, EVERY day, and have for a long time. This stuff is so common, I am no longer surprised anymore at anything.
    * Had a lady use our bathroom once, left without her pants or underwear....yea, saw her walk out that way
    * Did a service call yesterday on a Cab50 which wouldn't stay running. It was filthy. We cleaned it, told her the bill was $99, she refused to pay, saying, and I quote "No one told me I had to clean it"....
    * Person ordered an insert. We arrived to install. They had no fireplace.

I don't know, are people getting worse? I think so, since Darwin's law doesn't apply to humans.

    And they VOTE

Even my commercial customers were at times problematic.

They would listen to their private customers, and then pass the grumbling on to me.

We delivered a 30 yard load of 1/2 to 1/4 red cinder to a customer that they had, and it was delivered by the book.

The dump location was all marked out and taped off with hazard tape.

First they complained that the material went outside of the taped off area, DUHHHH.

The spot was about 4 feet square and I am supposed to drop 30 cubic yards there, eh.

Then they complain that the stuff is not the right color.

Hmmmm, they looked at the same stuff at the dealers yard and picked it out.

Ahhhh we don't have a color chart ya know, ma nature made this stuff a bazillion years ago.

Next the complaint was that it was too small
The next day they complain that it is too big.

The dealer was just totally upset.

I did some "Gumshoe" and spoke with the neighbors of where we dropped it.

Seems this sort of complaining is SOP with those folks.

They cry and howl until they get whatever it is for free.

My dealer was ready to refund their $$$$$ until I shared the news of the scam they were getting handed.

    That load was $1000 delivered.

These sort of Azzz holes are out there and ready to scam at the drop a hat.

    Glad to be retired.

Several folks stopped by to look at the insert, and there always seemed to be an issue.

Does it lite itself ??? NO
It's the wrong color I suggest a can of stove paint ?????
    It's really big ?????????
I can't lift the bags of pellets that high ???????????
Will you come and install it ???? NO

The last fellow called Saturday and said he would be over in about an hour, ahhhh, never saw him or heard from him ether ????

    Hmmmmmm

    Gotta wonder what people want.

A pellet stove that loads it's own pellets, lite's itself, is the right color and is self installing.

Had one couple show up in a tiny Honda Hatchback and could not get their heads around the fact that the stove would not fit in the car.

Wanted me to haul it 40 miles to their house. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

    Arrrrrrrrgh
