The area in front of the trees is really a trail. There's more browsable trees, saplings and such beyond the beech grove that are doing well. A number of years ago, my parents actually cleared a spot in the woods for a home by taking mature trees down, and there are plenty of saplings growing in that area. Deer do love to hang out in this area as there's a good vantage point, with fields close, and springs nearby for water. There's always nice bucks around too. Talking more about this really has me set on at least spending a few days in a stand in my land. That is unless the turkeys don't boot me out.
No extra bananas just a simple muffler mod. So in other words it runs like the 7900s did before Dolmar got hosed into the SLR by the EPA.
So I went back in the woods today, and cut and hauled and split a load. The widowmaker is still on the tree, but it did move a little. It's really close to falling now. I'll be out of the woods until the ground dries up a bit. Hopefully in those couple of weeks this thing falls down.
Hard to see for sure, but it almost looks like you could yank that off there with a cable, if the wind doesn't bring it down.
Leave it buddy, or do the slingshot method that HammerheadC4 mentions in his thread. Hopefully it will be down when you go back out on dry ground. Stay safe.
Horkn just curious with all the deer browse discussion, was your area decimated by CWD? We now have it in our eastern most counties and appears to be relatively well contained to a 3 county area. It's 300 miles from me but I still worry. I know WI was devastated in some areas. I know you guys have some top shelf bucks. Isn't Buffalo Co one of the trophy areas?
Yeah, a simple tug towards where I took the picture would free it. I'll let it be and let nature finish it off.
There's always big bucks here. Yes, there was some cwd confirmed, but it wasn't like the officials expected. The population is at a good amount. Not too many, and there's more than enough natural food, as well as farm fields with all sorts of good deer food growing.
I thread some mason's twine through an old socket (5/8" or so) and use that for a throw line. Just like throwing a rock, but easier to tie the string on.
Great ideas guys! I happen to have a couple of galvanized pipe nipples that would work well, if Ma Nature doesn't fix it.
