you have done a lot of work on your home. I would think just the new floor should have done a lot for draft control. It all adds up!

me too. it does complicate things a little.
I found a few things that helped get the heat upstairs this year that made a big difference

I am a little under 2 cords for this year so far, last two years i used about 4 cords

So, will you share these tips and tricks? Perhaps you'll think on it and pop off a thread on the subject? I'm all ears!

What things worked for you? I have a louvered door at the basement stairwell and the fan runs most of the time on the stove.

So what do you do when you want to go away in the winter? Do you leave an electric heater going so your toilet and pipes dont freeze?

I figure I'm about 1/2 of normal this year. Right about 3 cord burned.

One time we did go away and did set one little Pelonis ceramic heater in the bathroom, just in case. House was a bit below 60 when we got home. Weather was not really cold but was below freezing. Of course the winters we went to Arizona we simply drained the water lines and blew them out. Shut the pump off. Dipped water out of toilet bowl then put RV anti-freeze in all the traps. It is surprising how little time it took to do this and also to get things going again once we returned. It has been several years now since we've went to Arizona but last winter certainly got me to thinking about it again. However, we sold the motor home so probably won't be going back.
