I can remember like it was yesterday... the trails we tried to ride on that looked a lot like the rocky bed of that stream... :picard:

Dad had a 68 skidoo Olympic
And a 69 mercury sno twister back when I started riding.
That mercury was a awesome machine in its day.
Rode like the one in the video...
I'd love to have it back now

Tim, the first snow machine I owned was bought new in 1967 or 1968 and was a Skidoo.

My first sled was an Olympic, 1970 I think. It had the headlight that you pulled the lever and came up out of the cowling. Except if it got wet when you crossed streams during the day and froze up tight. Then you had to follow your friends tailight to get home in the dark, cause you ain't got no headlight.:hair::doh:

I've come across a few of those on the lakes in the area of where this video was shot over the years. My oldest son lives just down the road a few miles from this field. West Ossipee where they were invented is just a town or two away. Oh, while we are at it, I think JC Penny even sold snowmobiles, I could be wrong. But I think I remember seeing one.

My friend had the exact same sled, except in the long track. It had 10 bogey wheels. You could take 3 people on it. We used to have a blast. Wow, brings back memories! Thanks.

Great post fellas.....I've got three 1974 Chaparral SSX's. One is in beat up but excellent running shape, I use it every winter for hauling wood of for the farm and for playing in the snow. I'm in the middle of rebuilding one that has 900 original miles on it, and I have another that's complete with low miles that just needs some work to get running. That one I plan on restoring to show condition someday. The one with 900 miles is gonna get a newer twin engine so I can do big rides......

Super cool stuff in this thread! Wow. Wish I could post when I had my "first sled". :( Never had one, always wanted one. One day I'm going to move to the mountains/country and get me one! :D

I can remember the sound of one of those firing up and idling back in those days. There were many of them around the farm. Compared to the Polaris Colt, cleated track, "tank" we had then, those Skidoos would go anywhere.
